Interesting image. I really do love the black and white and how high contrasted it is. I do think that looks really good. I like the shallow DOF, it adds to it, also with the texture like background. It does really make the image more intense.
I would have lay the guitar differently though. While the straight thing may make sense with the title, I don't think it adds much photographically. The centering of the guitar is rather boring too. I would have maybe laid it upright, turned it for a 30° angle. I think it would look much mire interesting.

I see the words 'scanned negative' and I'm like Cool!
I get a melancholic feeling seeing this photo... probably cuz it's in black and white and the guitar/ukelele is on the ground. Yeah, that's probably it.
