Nice drawing. It's too bad they're extinct, the poor little birdies.

this drawing caught my eye because of the excellent inking and shading. I studied the Dodo once, didn't they live in Africa and were hunted down in the 1700's or something?

Thanks!
The dodo lived on Mauritius, an island off the coast of Africa (next to Madagascar). It was "discovered" in 1598 when Portuguese landed on the island, and extinct by 1681.

My favorite part about this drawing is the feathers. They look so good! The way you did them gives it a 3d and textured effect. Very nice

Awww, thank you! The feathers were great fun to do. Lots of shading and erasing and such. Glad you like him.

There may be more, we'll see. Life's a bit too hectic for drawing and posting lately.

It's the Homer Simpson Bird!! Do we have the right to name an extinct species? Should the name be reassigned? Can we give it a frickin' break and show a little respect? Meh. The only pupiless eye so far to look a little .....erm.....confused. Great texture in the beak, I'm feeling horny sheath.

What did I just say?

D'oH!! D'oH!!

Homer Simpson bird.

Poor bird definitely needs a better name.

He does look perplexed, doesn't he?

Even though this comment's a month old, it still makes me giggle (especially the part about the horny sheath. HAHAHA). Timeless humor from Davey.

I used mechanical pencil again... No conte. I think I threw all my conte crayons away when I moved, actually. Oh well.

I think Dodos were grayish in color in life. There are drawings of them, and some stuffed specimens in museums. Of course, that's not even close to seeing one alive and in person, but since we killed them all decades ago, it'll have to do, I guess.

Thanks for the comment! Sorry about the late reply!

The contes got tossed because I didn't have anywhere to put them, and I was at the point where I just felt like throwing things out that I hadn't used in a while. A bit foolish, I know, but it seems to happen everytime I move.

The original drawing's not very large, but you're right, lots of shading with a small lead. I think I like using them because they give me lots of control over what I'm drawing.
