The lighting is incredible! I love how the one in the back sorta disappears into the gloom. May I ask what species these are? They look carnivorous, that's all I can tell.

Thanks! El Senor maglite flashlight gets credit for the lighting.

These are domestic cats, believe it or not. My biology prof had about 15 of these guys in the Zoology lab. Gorgeous little creatures.

Thanks!
For lighting I just used a tiny maglite flashlight! You can get some really neat effects with just a flashlight. Spooky, expressive, dramatic stuff. Works really well with skeletons and skulls.

Who articulated the skull on the left with it's mandible? Great idea giving it that monster underbite.

Hyoids :shiver:

If I could eat skulls I would.

Thanks for such a positive comment and for the !

Flashlights can make for some pretty interesting photography, especially with black and white film. Just a change of direction in the flashlight, and this photo might be totally different.

Thank you! My flashlight should get all of the credit for the lighting.

When I was taking photographs for this project, it struck me that with the right lighting and atmosphere, these normally dead, inanimate remains take on personality and life. How cool of you to notice the same thing in these photos as well! Great observation.
