wasn;t her arch-enemy. He wanted to gain powers as well, but the serum had the nasty side effect and turned him into the mindless Lizard. Gwen didn't knew about the transformation and fought the beast and accidentally killed him (explained in vol2 #6). He transformed back right before drawing his last breath, much to her horror.

more like her "Uncle Ben". For both Spider Man and Gwen it needed someone close to them to die because of their actions in order to make them realize about using their powers to help others.
Her starter villains and arch-enemies were the Inheritors and Morlun, those interdimensional vampires that hunted her and other spidep-powered people
