Description
I used graphite and colored "graphite based" pencils, on a very high grade, vellum finished paper. The higher "wax based" pencils do not always blend as well and can have a build-up issue with my style. This is a time consuming "layering" blend style/technique. My works and style are unique and "one of a kind" in my field. This piece was just completed and I am extremely happy with how it turned out!!Related content

My first impression: This piece is stunning. I love your style, clean lines and subtle color, it really looks like vector art at first glance. I love that you've put up a large size piece so that it is easy to view your lines and shading up close. It's true that the waxier colored pencils do create chunky build up--up close I think it does detract slightly from the piece. (Do you use a blending medium with your colored pencils? I usually use Prismacolor pencils [super waxy] and it seems that alcohol works in smoothing and blending them.)
I love the stylized look to the overall piece, I definitely prefer a bit of artistic license in works like this, rather than another copy of a photograph. I don't particularly like the lack of detail in her eyes, but I think it works for the illustrative style of the piece and perhaps adding detail to the eyes would take away from the flow of it.
Overall, this is a great work of art and the amount of time and effort is obvious in spite of the clean simple style. There is a fantastic illustrative quality that--in my opinion--has a much heavier impact than if it were heavily shaded and detailed.
Great Job!

Thank you so much for the solid crit!! I do not use any blending medium, but would welcome the idea to try, along with the suggestion to use alcohol to help blend, due to the fact that I have been trying some Prismacolors on some of my current "in progress" works.
As far as the eyes, I was' and still am undecided which way to go with them, and will try something different on a good reproduction, to see how it would turn out. (Being safe off the original, basically*)
Thank you so much for the input and the different ideas/methods!
Excellent Critique, and most welcome.

It's the least I could do! You asked me to check out Pamela a few days ago, but I wanted time to really think through my input. I think all of your work is amazing, there is definitely so much effort and time put into it. But I had the feeling you wanted a little more input than that
It's weird, I don't like the eyes, but I can't see how you could have done them better in that particular piece in that particular style. The eyes definitely add to the piece as a whole.
Anyways, I can't wait to see more! Take care!

you are so cool .... are you married??! lol,... so really you are! Yea, the eyes was my "wall" for almost a week. I could not decide which way to go, and I really had to "young" down Pamela. She likes SO much makeup in her eye area and really long nails, and more. Which I also change, the artist option thing. I met one of the senior art editors from Playboy a couple of years ago in NYC while I was working for a small rag magazine. I still have his business card. He told me to contact him, once I developed/polished up my style more. Pamela was primarily done to add to Dreamer, and send out to him, and she is also one of Playboy's family/portfolio. I have ordered the high res. copies from my printer last Wed. (they have a 12 color jet process, much better than giclee) That's why your crit. is/was so important, along with input on Dreamer from someone. I am going to change one of the copies I have ordered, of each one to a different approach, to show him some options. Thanks again!!

Yes I'm married for going on 9 years--
I'm excited to see some of the variations. I didn't think it got any better than giclee--I'll have to look that up!

per my local printer, and they do work for a huge amount of artist and houses, giclee is an older term, but well know and still vastly used to overall describe higher processes. They are beelineandblue.com
9 years, congrat's, lucky mate.
I am going to upload my "big flowers" ... hopefully soon. That is the name they titled the TIFF file. This file was originally 320MB....ouch. Not sure what I will rename it, that's not my real forte' ...lol. It has a huge amount of detail, I reworked/added another layer of gesso pretty thick and textured "before" I did the painting. This one was another "work in progress" for a large amount of years. It is on a huge square canvas, ie why the large amount of detail when reduced down.
talk to you later....!!
