Thanks, yes, Magritte has a piece with a bowler hat. The silhouette here is from a simple straw hat but when it was cut out it became similar.

Numbers are the hare and identity the tortoise...

Would numbers exist without people to create them?

I think that is an extremely good question. I believe some philosophers and scientists say yes and others say no. Simply defining the terms "numbers" "exist" and "create" - if we assume we know what people are - is not at all easy

Thinking a bit of that, I know that some animals can count. Maybe not with numbers though.

That's right - I would assume no abstraction is involved when animals count.

it worked very well, you should do more collab's - you men with hats
... btw, this collage made me remember a catchy pop tune from the 80's by a group called Men without hats [link]

It is square so look like very much like a CD cover.

Yes it does. I used the square format in tribute to one of Ulrich's preferred photo formats.
A CD with this cover would have interesting music, I think! Thanks for the comment.

It has an interesting set of qualities for a disc cover ; it is both discrete, intringuing and eye catching. And there is some possibilities to add a name without ruining the composition, too...You have to find the music inside now .

Glad you like it! Besides your photo, the black matchbook behind the silhouette on the left is a scrap from a sidewalk in Switzerland or France - and the other scraps I had at home. So it's multi-national and - erm - bi-artistic!

And in the spirit of Gutenberg !!! The photo was of a set of printing matrices from one of the type setting machines (the one which reminded me a bit of a typewriter printhead).

Nice work, Richard, and very intriguing. My feeble mind keeps trying to figure out what's up with the numerical array, especially since it sometimes repeats (both horizontally and vertically) but is also offset from row to row. Any image that keeps me engaged for this long is a definite winner in my book! (I really like the tones here, too.)

Thank you, Vic. What's funny is I think I remember Ulrich taking that shot but I don't remember what those numbers were! And I appreciate the comment about the tones, there were some other things I could have done and I decided to let the palette lead the way.
