Fantastic! Β I wish more cosplayers built 3d/illustration scenes like this for their cosplaying to play in Β

Β This looks pretty epic. Β I love the lighting! Β  How much time do you take to make these suits and what's the budget for such materials? Uhm... miss Riddle? Do you mind if I use the Wasp pose of a picture I'm making? Β  I promise to credit you!!!!

this costume was a little pricier then I had hoped because I paid to have the pieces chromed by a professionally. I don't do a lot of costumes, so I have money to do the costumes I want to do right. But I try to be as thrifty as I can by shopping on amazon, ebay and good will stores.. and TONS of fabric coupons.

Β  Good tips. I might try that the Β next time I try cosplaying Spider-Man. Β I kinda had to make do with a Spidey mask, gloves, and shirt, blue jeans and red, black-webbed shoes. Β I'll see if I can find those fabric coupons. Β  Thanks! Β And, uh, so do you mind if I use the picture for my picture? Β Well, I wanted to borrow the pose. I wanted to make sure I got proper permission...Β

If you'd like a suggestion, I know that different fabric stores will offer coupons if you sign up for their mailing lists. Also try their websites; they'll often advertise deals. Additionally, take advantage of seasonal deals--even if you can't find something you can use now, you may be able to get something now for use later.

I know about this sort of thing because (1) I used to be married to a part-time costumer and picked up a few tricks, and (2) I'm interested in trying my hand at cosplay myself, but I'm on a very small fixed income (read: disability payments), so I've learned a lot of money-saving tricks.

And thrift stores in general are sometimes a good place to look for both fabric and outfit parts that can be modified. Another thing is to hit garage sales, especially with a friend or three. I used to know some folks that were dealers in the SCA, and they'd always find the most interesting things at garage sales...

All right, you asked for it!

Keep in mind that I live south of Seattle, so here's what I either have access to or would have access to if I had a vehicle and/or lived closer...

JoAnn Fabrics: very good fabric store, with lots of craft-related stuff as well. Frequently offers classes in sewing/jewelry making/etc. www.joann.com/

ArtCo Crafts: limited fabric selection, primarily arts & crafts (jewelry making, painting, beading, etc.) artcocrafts.com/

Michael's: HUGE selection of craft items. Some fabrics as well. www.michaels.com/

Univ. of Washington Surplus: Good place to find props for mad scientists, because they sell used chemistry lab gear. www.washington.edu/facilities/…

Boeing Surplus: Good place to find all kinds of tools, airplane parts(!), and whatnot. Used to have an outlet, now sells on EBay. www.ebay.com/dsc/i.html?_ipg=&…
Washington State Surplus Sales: As with Boeing Surplus, you can find almost ANYTHING here! www.facebook.com/WashingtonSta…

Display & Costume Supply: Biggest costume store in WA. Has LOTS of costumes, make-up supplies, props, etc. Fun place to window shop if nothing else, and offers costuming classes. displaycostume.reachlocal.net/…

Greenwood Space Travel Supply: Wanna be an astronaut? Check these guys out. Almost as good as NASA! www.greenwoodspacetravelsupply…

Archie McPhee's: Got kitch? These folks do! Gotta see them to believe them. www.mcphee.com/shop/

Faerie Fingers: makes patterns for anime costumes; also does nice work costuming. www.faerie-fingers.com/

Gargoyles Statuary: I list this here because there's a fellow I've met, Victor Moray, who makes vampire fangs from dental acrylic. gargoylestatuary.com/
I know of another fang maker, but she's based out of Portland, OR if I'm not mistaken, and I don't have her contact info. Her name is Chris "Tooth Fairy" Carpenter.

Online Resources I've Found:
The Bone Room: located down in CA; I found out about this place through MythBusters. If you need human or animal bones for any reason, try these guys. www.boneroom.com/welcome.aspx

Dapper Cadaver: LA-based Halloween store. www.dappercadaver.com/

Cinema Secrets: prosthetic and SFX make-up supplier that I discovered through SyFy's Face/Off. www.cinemasecrets.com/-profess…

Etsy: Online store for various craftspeople. Discovered this because there are several steampunk jewelers whose work I liked. www.etsy.com/

This alone should get you and anyone else looking for costuming/propmaking/SFX make-up supplies at least get started...

My pleasure, truly. I'm always happy to help out when and where I can, even if it's only providing information.

Oh, I forgot to mention one other resource: your local military surplus stores. Last time I went to one of the two in my neighborhood, they had parachutes (good source of nylon fabric), closed-cell foam mats (useful raw materials for a lot of different items), used BDUs [Battle Dress Uniforms] (good for the basis of a military costume, such as the Colonial Marines from Aliens), and even an Air Force pilot's jumpsuit (don't know what I'd use it for yet, so it's still hanging in my closet).

Definitely also make use of your favorite search engine, local thrift stores, and your imagination. You never know what you might turn up!

Happy hunting, and good luck!

You know that at this point, I can't take anyone as Wasp seriously besides you. I bet even if they were to add her in Avengers, I wouldn't be able to take the actress seriously. You have done a great job with all your cosplays but I think your Wasp cosplays will always be my favorite.

I actually saw the video before I found your Deviantart profile (was searching Mary Marvel) and then when looking at your gallery I said "That was in that youtube video I saw the other day"

Wow, you look a lot different with an action expression! (I mean that in a good way! ) I love the hair-blowing effect, and Ghani did a magnificent job making everything look so realistic. It looks like a shot of the Avengers movie (which should have cast the Wasp!) instead of a bluescreen in a non-Hollywood studio. Very nice job on your flight acting, too; you really sell the idea that you're moving forward in the air. And of course, it's a flawless, perfect costume ... but you knew that from all the comments you've received from us in the past, right?
