Description
This is a tutorial for lightening the color of a wig. It's only semi permanent, so if you wash your wig some of the color are going to wash out. But it looks great though!! xD And I haven't heard of anyone else that has been able to lighten the color of a wig, so this is revolutionary !! haha, just kidding! I hope you find it useful. is there any way to bleach a VERY dirt blonde wig white so you can dye it purple?

No, there is no way to bleach a wig unless it's real hair. But I believe that you can use purple posca markers(or probably any type of markers) straight on the dirty blonde wig. That is if the purple is supposed to be a dark purple, I do not think that it will be as successful if the purple is supposed to be a light purple.

This is ABSOLUTELY badical. Simple, but the effect looks great!

You're welcome~!!
This breaks the statement that it's absolutely impossible to lighten a wig's colour. <3

Oh almost forgot, I have a question. I'm not sure if you can answer this but using a 15mm POSCA pen would you need to use more than one pen? Sorry if that sounds confusing. What I mean is would you need to use more than one of the markers if it's a small pen or not? sorry for bothering you ;n;
π: 0 β©: 1
Rirukuo In reply to LunaFishy [2012-06-19 21:30:12 +0000 UTC]
oh, no problem at all! It kind of depends on how long/thick you wig is. It's a lot more "paint" in the bigger size posca pens than in the small sizes, so I think you would need more than one small posca pen if your coloring a long- or very thick short wig ( Β΄β³ο½)

I did the same thing to my wig last night. My wig was a black one which I had to turn purple so I did white first then added the purple over when it dried. I dont understand how people never think of doing this. Happy im not the only one who thought of it

OH, good!! Did you wig turn out nice? I was afraid that I was the only one doing this because others thought it didn't look good or something.. But now I know that it works for others too xD

Yup. It turned out perfect but it took a long time. The Hair becomes a little hard though so combing i tis a hard task but I'm trying to find a way to loosen them up

Yay! Posca!
These markers are awesome. Good tutorial, I'm sure this will be useful some time This method needs to be fully investigated and tested!! u.ΓΊ

And I agree that this method has to be tested a little more! But from my first try, it seems to work really well!

A lot of other markers can be used to darken the wig, but I haven't found any other markers that can lighten a wig, I'm sorry :/

I did not know that there was actually a way to make a wig lighter! This will be very helpful.
I just wondered if the wig was still soft after you painted it and if the darker color stained on your cosplay after a while?
π: 0 β©: 1
Rirukuo In reply to Kisshu-Neko [2012-06-12 14:20:08 +0000 UTC]
It's still soft and easy to brush and style, but the wig fiber feels a little bit rougher. I don't see it as a problem though, because it looks really soft, and I don't want people to go feeling up my wig anyway
I have not gotten any stains yet! If you brush the wig really well after you've colored it, the paint that hasn't stuck completely to the wig gets brushed out. I haven't worn it for a whole day yet though, but i don't think it will stain. I'll get back to you after I've worn it at the convention next week!

Kisshu-Neko In reply to Rirukuo [2012-06-12 17:40:33 +0000 UTC]
That would be nice, thank you!Ive heard that people who use shapie dyes sometimes have their wigs stain on their cosplays, so it is great that (at this moment) you don't have any problems with that.
Oh and one last question - Can you wash the wig after you have painted it, or will the paint go off? Thank you!

Rirukuo In reply to Kisshu-Neko [2012-06-19 23:58:09 +0000 UTC]
I wore my wig around the house all day today, and I didn't see any staining! But I was kind of stupid and wore a black t-shirt.. I should have worn a white one instead : /
The color will go out if you wash it, sorry : / maybe not all of it, but at least some of it..

Kisshu-Neko In reply to Rirukuo [2012-06-20 00:52:32 +0000 UTC]
Thank you for your reply! I guess that it is something to be tested. The fact that the color goes off if you wash the wig is great for temporary coloring but seems like a bother when you want to make a cosplay that you will wear more than once...
I'll keep the idea tough! Thanks for your helpful tutorial!

Rirukuo In reply to Kisshu-Neko [2012-07-06 11:30:46 +0000 UTC]
I'm sorry for the late answer, but I've found out that the wig did NOT stain my cloths! And if you spray the wig with hairspray the color is less likely so wash out in heavy rain and such. I can not vouch 100% for that the wig will never stain, but I did not have a problem with that at all.

Kisshu-Neko In reply to Rirukuo [2012-07-09 15:31:10 +0000 UTC]
Thank you very much, I'll defenitely consider this solution if I need to lighten a wig! I'm relieved that it doesn't stain (most likely) on the cosplay, because that could easily ruin it.

I knew there was a way! Did it feel or look clumpy and crunchy?
π: 0 β©: 1
Rirukuo In reply to Sarablack10 [2012-06-12 14:10:55 +0000 UTC]
It looks soft, and there's no clumps, and the wig fiber doesn't tangle, so it's easy to brush. But the wig fiber feels a little bit different. It's a bit rougher, but I don't think it's a problem.
