Description
30 Day Retrosaur Challenge part nine - Spike Tailed GoliathErikidorsus (hedgehog back) lived during the early/mid Jurassic and was either a very ancient member or a bizarre offshoot of the Spike Tail family. Had a special organ within it’s lower spine to act as a ‘second brain’ in order to give it enough fine control over its tail, to that point that the tail was quasi-prehensile. How did this this thing mate? Most paleontologists agree that they don’t know.
Based on this piece of paleoart , which allegedly depicts a stegosaur.

To be honest this creature has always been my favorite member of "outdated dinosaur designs" and I would love to see the looks on someones face if we actually discovered a real one some day.

Love how the artist actually made a kaiju looking creature before the concept even existed. It would look cool on a Godzilla movie or Ultraman show.

It looks like the very first monster Ultraman ever fought.

It would definitely fit the aesthetic of pretty much any giant-monster series.

The inspiration for this guy is among my favorite pieces of hilariously outdated paleoart. That thing is practically begging to be in a Showa Godzilla film.

It definitely had that 'different dinosaur parts combined' design philosophy.

I could easily see it as some sort of herbivorous Godzilla relative!

Or a missing link between Godzilla and Anguirus

Which would, based on their anatomy, make Titanosaurus a more primitive member of the Godzilla-Anguirus clade.

A family tree of kaiju species could be an interesting endeavor, especially if theres a handful of 'missing links' like that retro stegosaur...

I've spent a lot of time thinking about where in the tree of life a lot of kanji fit but I never really thought to connect it and make a cladogram or something like that. I think it would be a lot of fun!
