Or: La Sorelli and the Comte Philippe de Chagny in the Foyer de la Danse of the Palais Garnier.And now there's at least one picture of these two in existence. :P (Philippe is Raoul's brother, and La Sorelli one of the principal ballerinas, for those of you who might not remember.)
I never thought I would finish this.
I spent literally 24 hours on all the little details of this, and it's still not as intricate as the actual room at the Opera. The foyer de la danse in located at the back of the stage, and has its own chandelier, and mirrors on its back wall--which is why you can see the auditorium in the background here. The paintings around the top of the ceiling are (according to what I've read) portraits of famous dancers of the age. Decorative detail

How difficult was it to do the mirror effect? Because it looks hard!

After all those pillars and cherubs, the mirror was easy.
I wasn't really sure how I was going to do the mirror, because I don't have very much experience in painting them (says the phanartist XD), so I just tried to keep myself from doing things I'd done in the past that I knew were not the right thing to do (like drawing criss-crossy diagonal lines over the surface). In my new room, I have one of those closets that has a huge mirror as the door, so I spent time studying that and how it reflected my room, and tried to emulate that sort of look. I also noticed that, in the few reference pictures I could find of the foyer de la danse, that the mirrors didn't seem to be perfectly aligned with each other, so I tried to show that in the way the pillars don't quite match up with each other in the reflection (similar to the look of the broken pencil illusion ).
But, yeah, I'd happily paint a dozen more mirrors before I had to paint all of that decor again.
