Description
I miss my childhood.I missed the period before internet. When everything was so simple. I miss those days when every woman & girl around me had long hair. My mom, my aunty, my sister's, our neighborhood aunties, my teachers, my maid, each and everyone. Some had hair way longer than floor length others had knee length or a little shorter than that. Waist length hair was so common to find.
Those big sexy hair buns, sometimes bigger than a football. And those thick rope like anaconda braids, which used to swing like a pendulum whenever they walked. They used real, fresh flowers to decorate their hair which had a very beautiful fragrance, thousand times better than present day perfumes.
From oil to shampoo everything was natural. Even the aunties in 50's & 60's had dark black hair with only a few grey hair strands. And now even after using costly, so called natural hair dyes they don't get that shine and colour which was naturally present in those women's hair.
They had the most beautiful hair even without hair spa's, costly hair treatments and imported hair oils. I believe most of the women didn't even visited a Salon or Spa, even once in their life.
I have seen women cry, if somebody trimmed even a centimetre extra length of their hair. But nowadays it has become a fashion to spent thousands & thousands of rupees on costly hair care products and treatments. Even after spending so much, they don't even blink an eye when the barber chops their floor length hair to Bob length.
Thanks to the Global market & large Conglomerates which propagated the idea that short hair means freedom, Freedom from oppression & patriarchy ! But that's not true, all they wanted was a market to sell their useless haircare products which had no use on already long & thick beautiful natural hair.
First they made you chop their hair short & then they offered you products, claiming them to be made from natural ingredients, so that you can grow your hair long, how ironic ?
All they wanted was more & more women to join the labour force, so that they can exploit them and earn huge profits. And long hair was acting as a obstacle, which took good amount of time and care to maintain. They made you cut them, so that you can save the time on hair care & join the men in the factories, with low pay and poor working environment.
No wonder all women, so called progressive women in the movies, ads & daily soaps adorn boys like hair, either it will be a boycut, a Bob or a pixie. I don't remember ever seeing a successful women business entrepreneur with a big bun, or a long braid.
It's like saying that one can be only successful if they have men like characteristics, in our case men like short hair !
It was not like that the men in the old times forced our mother's and sisters to grow their hair long. It was their choice to grow their hair long, but now we are definitely forcing them to cut their hair directly or indirectly,by spreading the ideology that short hair is progressive and long hair is not.
My mom was not a fool, to grow her hair floor length long, giving her hair proper care and time to maintain, aswell as successfully managing our family affairs.
I seriously miss those evenings when a group of women mostly family members used to sit in circles, oiling & brushing each other's hair. They were connected to their kin, not like the present time when they don't even have time for their own daughters hair !
Also the Sundays when every women in the family shampooed their hair, i still remember how our water tank used to get empty by the end of Sunday evenings, due to so much shampooing !
And in the evenings almost every terrace in my neighborhood had a long hair women or girl, drying their long hair or brushing them & styling them into braids or buns.
Long hair is a natural ornament or jewellery for any woman. You won't need any other makeup if you have long & thick hair.
They have forgotten that in our culture long hair is a sign of prosperity and wealth. And short hair is for widows, slaves and defeated warriors.
And we should respect our traditions and culture, otherwise I won't find a difference between my mom with a boycut and my dad from a distance. Long hair is a very special and feminine characteristic of every female.
I heartily appreciate the long hair models and the girls who love long hair and are growing their long hair, even if it's just for the sake of money, fame or appreciation.
They totally deserve all of it, just for keeping the tradition of long hair alive.
I wish the trend changes and every girl / women starts to grow their hair longer, like in the old times, before internet.
THE END
