Thank you for this, I plan on moving into vector art for the near-long term. this is a nice place to start as I'm trying to figure out all Inkscape has to offer.

Yes)) And it is available in any OS. No need for using pirated programs or spending a large amount of money. It is really awesome.

This really could be many many different tutorials.  You should separate them and explain each a little more.  In order to read this I had to open in a new tab and zoom in.

Sorry if I sound like I haven't paid attention to this tutorial, it looks wonderful, but I'm having a hard time following the eye design section, and finding that particular pattern is quite a chore too, no matter where I look, I can't locate it.

This is iris pattern which is partially visible after applying (use scale and rotate tool (F1) to give it shape of iris ellipse)

I'm having trouble getting the process right... I've made most of my character's eye out of elipses: i.imgur.com/UJABhHd.png
I'm yet to fine tune minor details, but whenever I get to the Boolean operation step, I create another elipse to make the pattern space, but when I press ctrl + - it simply crops out the part of the eye: i.imgur.com/Bx9wmrl.png

By any chance, do you know if there are funtions like the ones of "Boolean operations between paths" in Illustrator?

Of course, it has the same functionality. Use Pathfinder.

Oh my gosh, this went so far over my head I couldn't even see it. I'm sure if I had some experience with Inkscape it would have been really helpful though.

Ooh, I didn't even realise Inkscape HAD a blur function like that! How useful, this will make shading a lot easier, thank you!

roadsleadme In reply to Ambassad0r [2013-02-27 07:52:23 +0000 UTC]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

roadsleadme In reply to Ambassad0r [2013-02-28 07:36:26 +0000 UTC]

This is a great tutorial and it goes over some really advanced stuff. I'll have to come back to it if I ever decide to learn shading.

Also, you left a bit of Russian in the section about duplicates and clones.
