I love how rich your colors are and how well they blend together.
My watercolor paintings tend to come out too light and I think it's because I use too much water. Do you use a lot of layers of paint and less water or is the brand of paint you use already rich and vibrant?

I use Windsor Newton Artists Grade (more expensive...but more pigment) on cold press paper. that really helps...plus I do a TON of layering. i get frusterated many times not being able to get the color i want. my painting may appear more vibrant on screen than they actually are...

good question!!

I don't know anything about painting, and I just wanted to know what you mean by "washes"?

no problem, just very "watery" coverage of paint. Watered down paint that is applied in VERY broad strokes to cover larger areas.

does that make sense?

Sort of. So washes are used to make the base colours softer?

they are just used to cover larger areas....but I suppose they could soften colors too...

I always get bored with the backgrounds (short attention span) so i do them first....

My favorite pallet thus far is a beading caddy I picked up at a craft store. It's really cool because all the seperate compartments have snap-on lids!

that sounds good...my wife is into beading and she has something like that..
