Description
Two of the three ships under direct command of Starbase 47 (Vanguard) rendezvous to transfer a critical cargo. I mainly did this one to experiment with lens distortion (foreshortening) to imply a better sense of mass.Archer class scout mesh created by Mark Azevedo - www.3dmaz.com. Poser conversion and enhancement by Ptrope w/ texture support by me. Daedalus class ship model by David Metlesits thefirstfleet.deviantart.com/ . Background by NASA, Arisechicken117, Hoevenkamp, et al.

The Daedalus-class ship; she's called the Lovell. What's she carrying?

Ah! In reference to the "critical cargo", I assume? They've got about 10 tons of unrefined Imaginarium aboard

Did you know that this design was one of the original concepts for the Enterprise, before the saucer design? It was later used in The Next Generations final episode as Captain Beverly Picard's "U.S.S. Pastuer" Damn, you do good work!

Yep - this was resurrected from Matt Jeffries' old design back when the Enterprise was still being called the Yorktown. It's pretty cool that they decided to pull that in as an earlier ship design. It's pretty clear that the Pastuer was inspired by this older concept, though the details of the Pastuer are quite different.
Glad ya like. It's always nice when people recognize the pieces of Trek lore I'm evoking

Did you also know that Issac Asimov was one of the contributers to the final design of the Enterprise?

I did not! What elements did he contribute?

Theory, mostly...what it would take to acieve a "faster than light" velocity...and the "warp field" between two poles (warp nacels).

Thanks! I think I was pushing the limit of what these models could handle for close-ups... but I can't resist trying

Makes me wish J J Abrams would push for a new Trek TV series.... Imagin a planetfall to a world of sentient apes. After the first Heston moments think of a crew of apes on a USS Kongo...

Couldn't help it saw the comments about apes and flying monkeys on the Vangaurd station picture and remebered an old buddy who was a big fan of planet of the apes and classic trek. He used to propose a crew of apes crewing a federation starship as a scene in one of the movies.

Thrilling scene. The background, close formation of ships, and the foreshortening - which seems to imply speed to me.

I'm not sure about "speed", but I'd like to think it lends a greater sense of "mass"?

Man, you were right! The field flattening that a high zoom lens gives you really lends mass to the ships!
