Description
It started as a gentle rain.Sprinkling droplets on our eager eyelashes,
As we waited impatiently,
Eager to grow up.
The rain got harder
As we got older.
Do you remember that summer?
When we were all together,
Leaning into the dry, dusty heat,
The harsh wind at our backs,
Filling our sails with desire.
We stood on the hilltops
Gazing into the horizon
At our futures plotted
Below on the hazy landscape.
Our mountains were molehills
And we couldn’t feel our feet of clay.
The erosion of time and ambition
Dissolved the plans from beneath us.
Tragedy and luck struck out at us
Like fiery lightning
As we stood on our crumbling cliffs,
Too enthralled with
The beauty of the storm
To run for safety.
We rode the landslides
Down into the dark ravines.
Standing in awe
As we watched the mist draw
Tiny tendrils of new life
From the scorched earth,
Never noticing the torrent
Rushing down behind us.
Now, farther down the road,
We gaze at the crystal stars
In the clear velvet sky,
Searching for each other
In the calm darkness,
Waiting to weather the next storm.
