Description Sorry for this being so late, but here she is, Maxine Hunkel, AKA Cyclone!!!

Maxine, or Maxi as her friends call her, is the granddaughter of the original Red Tornado, Abigail "Ma" Hunkel, who was a member of the Justice Society of America, the predecessor of the Justice League.  When she was a little girl, Maxine was captured by Dr. T.O. Morrow, the scientist who not only created the Red Tornado android, but who was also an associate of Dr. Silas Stone, the father of Cyborg.  Morrow, now having desired power for himself, injected Maxine with some of Red Tornado's nanites, and was about to augment her into an android form.  However, the Titans, who'd recently become members of the Justice League, stopped the operation before Morrow could complete his plans.  The nanites however remained dormant inside of Maxine until she reached the age of 14.

Once she entered high school, the changes began.  A sneeze demolished the second floor of her classroom, and the next day, she woke up from sleeping in class to find herself in a tornado that was 500 feet off the ground.  Thus, Maxine realized she had the power to control the wind.

When Nightwing and the Titans decided to reform the Teen Titans, in order to prepare themselves for what was to be possibly the final fight against Trigon, Maxine was one of the first teenage metahumans who were accepted into Titans Academy, the new high school in Jump City that would train the next generation of Teen Titans.  Being a die-hard fangirl of the team that rescued her when she was a little girl, Maxine instantly accepted without hesitation, through extreme amounts of excitement.  Thus, Maxine became Cyclone: one of the Teen Titans!!

Unlike in the comics, when she joined the JSA, this iteration of Cyclone is a Teen Titan true and true.  This was actually a fan suggestion by 1987man, so this one's for you, buddy!  For Maxine's costume, I was definitely NOT having her look like the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz.  I felt that it looked way too impractical in combat, especially the witch hat.  In fact, Argent helped design Maxi's costume, since she felt more in touch with her powers over wind through her skin.  So, she opted for something revealing, as well as a mask and fingerless gloves, as a homage to her idol and roommate, Stargirl.  In fact, Cyclone eventually became Stargirl's girlfriend.  (In the comics, it was hinted that Maxine had a crush on Courtney.)  Bubbly, cheerful and extremely smart, she is Starfire's mentee, an avid fan of musical theatre, as well as a member of both the drama club and the light music club.  Kole even taught her how to play the guitar, as she herself learned when her husband, Jericho, was still alive.  Her talkative nature and high intelligence make her an ace in the classroom, and she doesn't turn down any opportunity for a group study session.

Disclaimer:  Cyclone belongs to DC Comics, Geoff Johns and Dale Eaglesham.

So she doesn't have depression issues like her comic counterpart?

Honestly, I didn’t even know she had depression issues in the comics.

Her talkative nature and know-it-all personality alienated her peers and left the young woman isolated, her outcast status causes her to suffer from atypical depression. She copes with it by putting on a happy facade.

I honestly didn’t know that at all. Well, at least it explains why she’s always happy. She’s definitely not alienated at Titans Academy. Most people find her fun to hang around, and learn a lot from her when she’s talking about what she knows.

Does Titans Academy have a therapist that people can talk to?

Robin250 In reply to PeterVanHelsing [2020-05-13 01:15:26 +0000 UTC]

Yes. Shaun Tsang, AKA Defacer. She was introduced in the Nightwing comics a few years back as a former criminal sidekick-turned-heroine. She’s the therapist because after she spent time in juvie, she joined a group therapy session in Blüdhaven.

Does that make her qualified? Being in group therapy doesn't necessarily make someone a qualified therapist. I only bring this up because mental health is something I take very seriously. It's why I despise Heroes in Crisis on a personal level.

Much as I would like to stay and discuss this with you, I have a play to watch with my family. We’ll have to continue this another time.

Well, this iteration of Cyclone has a crush on and eventually becomes Stargirl's girlfriend. They were so close in the comics, that a fan suggested it to me.

I don't know this girl but I know the Teen Titans Is she from a recent series or the older comics?

Either way, you did great drawing her in your own style. I love how you drew her eyes and the mask. The long hair is very pretty and she has a strong but beautiful body type.

Actually, she's not a Titan. She's a member of the JSA. The only reason I added her to the Titans was because of a really good fan suggestion.

There she is, and she looks absolutely gorgeous. Reveling, but appropriate. The Cyclone pendant on her necklace is a nice surprise, but it does make sense, since it is her symbol. I'm sure Maxine made her star-collar blue on purpose.  Thanks for this. I feel that she's your best one yet.

Thanks as always!!  I felt that the cyclone pendant was a nod to her insignia on her ridiculous costume in the comics.  The only time I'm considering showing her in a witch hat, is for when she decides to use that as part of her Halloween costume.  I decided to make her Starfire's mentee since the two are both so bubbly and cheerful.  So I figured that Starfire would be more than happy to be a mentor for someone like Maxi.  Plus, she's a good friend of Nightstar as well, since she fills in for Argent whenever she's indisposed of or unavailable to make it for meetings, and she also sang at Jericho's funeral which shocked and surprised Robin to know that his girlfriend could really sing so beautifully, and play both piano and guitar.  I'm thinking of having Mirage on bass, since she too knows how to play guitar from when she was a little girl in Brazil, and a bass is similar to one.  Plus her favorite type of music is the Samba, with her favorite artist being João Gilberto.  And yeah, Maxine made her star-collar blue as a homage to Courtney.

Also, I'm also thinking about having Maxine and Courtney be in another club together.  Would that be possible?  I'm not sure what Courtney would like to do with Maxi.

They could definitely be in a club together. I'm pretty sure it would be Drama, since Maxine was into theater in the comics. It probably wouldn't be Courtney's strong suit at first, but Maxine could definitely warm her to the subject. One thing Courtney could be into, is Roller Derby. She has that spitfire-like vibe to herself, and she could even ease Maxine into the sport (just like how Maxine would eased her into Drama).

The drama club could definitely be a club for the both of them. I imagine that Courtney would have a big case of stage fright, but having Maxine with her could ease the fear. As for the roller derby, I'm pretty sure that Maxine would need roller skating lessons, and she'd probably fall down a lot, possibly even get hurt on her first race since it's such a contact sport. Though I know that Courtney would be there to help her girlfriend as well as comfort and support her if she does get hurt on her first race.

That sounds really good. Courtney, a rough and tumble Heroine, and Roller Derby girl, having stage fright would be a cute character quirk. I imagine that in order to help Courtney overcome her stage fright, Maxine tells her to use the trick of imagining that the audience is naked. Since Maxine's a nudist, she could emulate being the "naked audience" in front of Courtney, as so she can practice overcoming her fears. In return, Courtney could help Maxine toughen herself up. Along with teaching Maxine how to roller skate aggressively, I feel that Courtney could also teach her kickboxing (cause Courtney was into it in the comics) and wrestling in order to help Maxine form a more rough and tumble side of herself.

Ooh! That'd be really nice! I like those ideas, especially the kickboxing and wrestling. For that, they'd also be a part of the Martial Arts club, which is run by Nightwing, Starfire, Arsenal and Troia. I'm sure that Maxine would be held back since she's a beginner, but also the thought of Courtney having stage fright also sounds cute! I imagine that Argent would also be part of the drama club, given her love of opera. Plus I'm pretty sure that she'd help design the costumes with Maxine for school plays.
