Description The (crappy) cover for my 2010 NaNoNovel. Not only does it not really cover the real feel of the novel, but it took me maybe five minutes to throw together (not counting how many fonts I went though because I'm horribly indecisive) so I don't know if it's even worth putting up. -pokes dubiously- Oh well. The synopsis for the novel is as follows, if anyone is interested.

"Three hundred years ago in the land of Lebes and its surrounding countries, each blessed with massive amounts of magic, a group of sorcerers came together hoping to control Mother Nature herself (in the form of a Goddess called Daear) and bend it to their bidding. However, something went wrong, and instead of bringing about the rainy season quicker, they instead trapped Daear within the water, polluting it with her magic. Anything living that ingested this water was imbued with the Goddesses power. Unfortunately, living beings were not built to contain such power, and they changed into things beyond recognitions. Humans became beasts, animals grew huge, and the very landscape twisted to fit the shape of the magic pulsing through it. Chaos erupted, throwing the world into turmoil. Magic was banned, except in the case of a small group of people who had been found capable of creating pure water. These people, called Rainmakers, became the one thing keeping the world alive and were kept carefully protected by the shoddy governments that rose from the ashes of their former world.

All was not lost, however. While coming into contact with the enchanted water damaged living beings, using it in their primitive steam-powers machines gave the machines strength and power previously unheard of. Within a century or so, the world had recovered, for the most part, from its sudden upheaval.

Joliet Davis is a Rainmaker, and the only one confirmed not to be under the thumb of the government of the Lebian Empire. She is the adoptive daughter of a wealthy soldier by the name of Bauldin who took her from her biological parents as a child and has since hidden her identity as a Rainmaker from the world. On a trip from the Capital where she lives to the capital of the neighboring Empire, her train is attacked by some rebels and she finds herself fascinated by their cause. She winds up slipping away from Bauldin in the confusion and joins up with the rebels, coming to work for the rebel's head doctor, Raphael Cross, to whom she becomes extremely attached despite their vastly different backgrounds.

While working with the rebels, Joliet begins to have lucid dreams of an ethereal woman begging for help. It turns out that this woman is Daear, and she needs Joliet to free her from the water so that the world can finally go back to normal. With the help of some of the other rebels, like Dr. Cross, the reluctant werewolf Quint and his partner, the scholar Asher, the mechanic Inez, and ladies man Captain Eli Spencer.

This is easier said than done. Every single one of them is wanted for one reason or another, and many of them have parts of their past (and present) coming to haunt them. Not only that, but the entire world now runs of the magic-infused water, and removing the magic from the water will lead to the same chaos seen centuries before, but with nothing new to ease the problem.

Whether they act or not, the world is in dire straights. The only way to win is to not play, but sometimes it's better to lose if it makes things better in the end."

All of this rocks. The story is compelling (wanna read it!) and the cover itself is very retro in the best way.
