Description [Please read description for explo].

The muffled scream of the latest night guard was cut short as one of the actives fully bit down on the human head and finished the job.

It was only when the cosmic electricity of the breathing life began to rapidly slip away did I ooze out of the shadows of the party room. My legs, arms, and torso were as thin as the shadow of a table leg and as black as the soul of the imposter who had joyously murdered me, making my white, clownish face stand out in the low lighting. Without a complete physical form it was now nearly impossible for me to make myself active--let alone visible when a living human was nearby.

I felt the connection of the guard’s life at the tip of my power and I tried beyond the reaches of the physical for the human spirit as it vanished from the body in the blink of an eye but Chica was absorbing most of the reward. The man’s soul fled in its own power--to Heaven or Hell I knew not which, but I hoped it was the latter. This latest watchman hadn’t been the dreaded who had killed me and the other five, but I had smelled the ripples of sin that the human wore beneath his layered clothing.

It wasn’t him. Of course it wasn’t going to be him because he was smarter than that--than us. Imposter knew his way around our kind and that had always freshened my anger, but now I was unnerved. I temporarily directed a thought to the actives and slipped from shadow to shadow until I got to the hallway that led to the maintenance room in the back of the restaurant. My thought had told them to meet here and from down the hall I could hear their artificial voices echo between the space of linoleum and sheet rock.

Chica’s high-pitched voice said excitedly, “Oh, I think we’re in trouble. Bonnie…” Her voice became taunting and giggly, “Bonnie didn’t do his job.”

Bonnie replied with an irritated tonality, “There’s nothing wrong with my strategy. The cameras on the left side of the booth stay on more often, but it lets me plan my next step carefully. It was because of me distracting the guy that you were able to get into the booth.”

Chica chuckled, “All mine. He was all mine and not yours. Hee, hee!”

“Yer giddy on his life force, Chica,” Foxy crackled through a distorted speaker. “Shad up before ye say somethin’ you don’t want Jester to hear.”

Loyal Foxy. He had always followed my commands without argument. The years had molded his angry and paranoid state of mind into some organized sense of erratic intelligence--second to Freddy of course. I noticed  that Freddy hadn’t said anything yet.

That cheap replication of the Protector was the smartest out of the four actives. He had most likely realized that I was unhappy and was trying to workout why. I hoped that my bubbling tension was mistaken for anger. It would keep him in line.

“You’re still not his favorite,” Chica told Foxy. “Just because you kiss up to him doesn’t mean he cares.” Another giggle took her over and the mechanical whir of old servos trying to work was heard. Chica had most likely stepped up to her death brother. She continued, “You’ll never break through Jester’s attachment to Freddy.”

“Stop it, chicken,” Foxy said angrily, losing his patience. “We owe it to Jester for what he did for us. We’re all obliged to his attention.”

“That’s just it, Foxy,” Freddy finally spoke, voice soft but intimidating. “Jester did this to us. Could we not go on our way? Could we not speak for ourselves?”

Bonnie interrupted, “This is old news, Freddy. You’ve brought this up before and we’ve all selected against this irritated point of view of yours. How can you forget what happened to us?”

I could sense the atmosphere go rigid and just imagined their eyes going red. That’s what I wanted from them; that’s how they were supposed to feel. That vengeful emotion of bright hate is what would  keep them alive in those suits long after I was gone. But I couldn’t give up. Not yet. Not when we were so close.

I had stopped just outside the door and there I waited a moment longer. Freddy was the first to snap out of his predatory condition. “It’s not just Jester. All these years trapped in this prison Protector hasn’t said where he’s come from. And we trust him?”

“We trust him because Jester trusts him,” Foxy inclined.

Bonnie quickly cut in, “Danger zone, Freddy. You better stay quiet before Jester hears.”

Freddy replied, “Too late for that. He’s standing outside the door right now.”

Proven once again. Freddy was the smartest of the four. I revealed myself and entered the room, towering above them a dark stalk of an advisor before his subjects. They had all gone silent--even Chica who had stopped chuckling. Bonnie looked at the floor, timid to make eye contact. Chica, though quiet, was in a drunken sort of delight--eyes darting from me to the others expecting some kind of action; blood covered her mouth and down her front staining her bib dark red. Foxy looked at me respectfully, shoulders straightened. And Freddy…Freddy was looking up at me with his head down, making him have a stare of menace that he gave some of the cameras. I favored him most out the four because he was clever and had mastered use of the shadows much like myself, but his idle genius made me more penchant toward my distaste for him.

There was such a thing as too smart.

Well if this is what you can write when you're down on your skills, then I'll be eagerly checking out your stories from other times. Oh and, there's always the risk of messing with other people's theories, there's so many out there as it is, so don't worry about it! : P
