The thief watched the young noble cross Griffin Square. He bit his lip in anticipation, keeping his mentor's advice in mind. "Make sure they don't see you!" "Gotta be swift and silent!" "You know, tripping isn't gonna help us." He grimaced thinking of every time he messed up. "Don't worry Fesdair…" he muttered to himself.

Slowly, he crept towards his target. The male elf wore an elegant red leather coat with gold trimmings and fancy markings. In his hand he carried a decorative cane with a ruby on top and miniature griffin under that. The thief wondered if he should just take the cane instead of having the risk of there being nothing in his pockets. He looked rich enough. He had to have something in them. Or at least the thief hoped.

Compared to the noble, the thief's clothes were less than shabby. His once white tunic was now tan, and the brown vest he wore had only one button. His leather belt was frayed and the fingers of the indigo gloves he had picked up off the streets were worn off. Even his skin, slightly tanned by the summer sun was stained with dirt. The one thing that still had the resemblance of being new was the sky blue hat upon his light brown hair. He would never get that dirty.

The thief crouched behind the fountain wall, the noble completely oblivious to the young elf. He was busy smiling at the women who he passed, nodding to the men with slight disdain as they bowed in respect. He must be important! the thief thought. I'll defiantly be able to snatch something…

The noble continued his stroll towards the castle. Again, the thief hesitated. What if he can't reach him in time? He scurried past other peasants on their daily routine, getting closer by the minute. Almost there…

He stopped and hid behind a sack of grain near an inn next to the castle breathing hard. "No…" he whispered. Two Dragon Guards were walking down the street. Fesdair had always told him to never steal while they're around. He bit his lip, begging himself not to whimper. He hated Dragon Guards. They scared him more than anything.

He let out a sigh of relief as they went past without a glance. He quickly peaked over the sack. His eyes widened and he scrambled up after the noble who was far off now. He ran to catch up, holding his precious hat securely on top his head. Before he knew it, he was almost on top of the noble. No time to slow down now… he thought with a groan. I'll just use trick number 3!

His euphoria at remembering the trick Fesdair excelled at gave him confidence. He sped up, then yelled in surprise as he collided with his target. He fell back with a thump and the noble turned on him.

"Look where you're going!" he shouted at the thief.

"Sorry…" he apologized, picking himself up. The noble straightened his coat and brushed off invisible dirt that he believed came from any contact with one as dirty as the boy.

"Keep in mind the guards like to take naughty children away to their dark dungeons," he muttered walking away without another glance. The thief gulped, not liking the sound of that one bit.
