Description
(Hit the "p" button)I walked through the woods. I knew the dangers of being this far west. Especially for a Light Elemental. But I know how to take care of myself. My strength hasn't left me yet.
The trees were bare. The bark black. I thought of the forest back home. There the bark was healthy, the leaves shown old in the sun. These trees reminded me of sharpened claws, wanting to rip me throat.
I smiled to myself. Imagine if I had come here before, when I was young, naïve, stupid. I would've cowered in the bushes, praying that no Dark Elemental would find me. Cause then, they'd surely take me hostage, do who-knows-what to me.
I chuckled. How stupid. I knew Dark Elementals who are more kind than some Light ones. It's sad how far apart our twp great nations are. We are so alike, both hating each other for what we don't understand.
I wanted to prove them wrong. To prove that the Rogue way of life should be desired by elementals who are still trapped in the traditional ways. The perfect way to prove elementals could co-exist, is bringing a Light and Dark Elemental together.
Which is why I was here. I looked up at the moon. He should be here soon. I stilled my thoughts as I heard a flutter of wings in a tree behind me. I smiled. "Hello, Lazarus."
"How do you know my name?" a gruff voice said. I turned to see Lazarus. His cloak enveloped him, everything but his dark eyes hidden in shadows.
"I saw you. When I was sitting in my chair at the Rogue-"
"You're a Rogue?" He scoffed. "A Light Elemental. That's rich."
I smiled slightly. "They were founded by a Light Elemental, weren't they?" Lazarus said nothing. It was hard to guess what he was thinking. "I came to ask you something," I continued.
He shifted slightly, the cloak revealing an under nourished body. He dropped to the ground, the cloak enveloping him in shadows once more. "I don't want to hear it," he muttered.
"I know about Lux."
His eyes widened slightly, then were narrowed in hatred. "Don't say that name."
"I know how they framed you. How they framed her."
"DON'T SPEAK OF HER!" Darkness flew at me, wrapping around my chest like a huge hand, and I crashed into a tree. I fell to the ground, gasping for air. Lazarus walked towards me, a long black sword now in his hand.
I quickly got up, wrapping a shield of light around me as darkness surrounded me. I heard far off screaming, wails of suffering children. The noise clouded my mind, threw me off guard. The shield broke and Lazarus swung at me with his sword. I jumped back, the blade cutting me slightly. I summoned a light sword and blocked his next blow.
"I don't want to fight you, Lazarus!" I yelled, thrown back by his strength. I was pinned to a tree. His eyes stared at mine, everything growing darker. I was suddenly in the Rogue city. The buildings were crushed, bodies of elementals were scattered around. I looked at my crimson hands, wet blood dripping from my fingers. I heard a child scream. I looked up at the small elemental. My fingers touched her cheek. I began to comfort her, but her face contorted in pain. Her skin disintegrated, leaving her small skeleton behind.
"STOP IT!" Lazarus was blown back, light illuminating the clearing. I ran at him, a light sword in each hand, my mind blind with fury. He met me halfway, our swords clashing together. Our shadows flickered across the trees, distorted like corrupted beasts.
Lazarus couldn't hide in his shadow cloak. He relentlessly attacked me, sparks flying from my sword every time his hit it. My anger quickly dies down as his strength overwhelmed me. The light was dying, shadows growing larger.
A sudden pain clenched my stomach and I staggered, the light swords disappearing. Lazarus' sword stabbed into my side. I choked, dark blood spilling from my mouth. Lazarus stepped back startled, his sword still in my side. I fell to my knees and vomited more of the dark blood. I crouched there, my breathing ragged.
Neither of us moved. Before I left, when I saw the vision of my meeting with Lazarus in a vision, I didn't foresee this. I slowly pulled the sword out of me. I groaned at the pain, then dropped the sword to the side. Light blood spilled out of the wound, slowly healing it. I looked up at Lazarus and wiped the dark blood from my mouth.
"You were poisoned," he said.
I laughed slightly, getting to my feet, the wound from his sword healed. "That's what I get for rebelling against tradition…" My head hurt, I felt dizzy.
"You're Jin, founder of the Rogues."
"Yes… and I'm afraid I angered one too many Kings." I picked up his sword and handed it to him. He stared at me. I sighed. "Like you, I was destroyed by my own people. But unlike you, I have only a little more time to live. I… want to ask something of you." He took his sword, understanding in his eyes. Good. He would do it. "Please… go to the Rogue city, watch over them. I… won't be able to soon." He nodded slightly. "Lazarus… you can use your anger against them. You can learn to control it." I swayed slightly, holding my stomach.
He steadied me. "I… can't promise anything," he muttered. I nodded to him. "Perhaps… I can atone for my sins."
I began to speak, then we heard voices. Lazarus enveloped himself in his cloak. "Go. I will hold them off," he murmured.
"Lazarus." He looked at me. "I'll see you with the Rogues."
He nodded slightly. "Go." I gave him a shield of light, protecting him from the worse of their magic. He nodded his thanks, then disappeared into the night.
I closed my eyes, the appeared at the edge of the forest. I fell to my knees and vomited more of the poison. There was little time.
