Can get snappy at other if it’s been a long day without much success. She pities most of the specials that come in, and kids herself that what she’s doing in order to find the cure is necessary. Is very serious and never laughs.

Background: She and her sister Yvonne were raised in a shabby apartment near an equally shabby school. The sisters were hardly ever apart, and Maria took it upon herself to watch over Yvonne when their mother fell sick. Her mother made Maria promise to make sure Yvonne never used her powers outside of the safety of their home.
Once night their mother woke Maria and ordered her to get her sister to safety. Maria was too slow, and Union agents captured them both, taking them to Union Headquarters.
The two were separated when it was discovered that Maria didn’t have any abilities. She was allowed to go, but she stayed, insisting that she sees her sister. She quickly realized that the Union would hear none of her requests, and she decided to grow up that day. She stopped asking questions and began to listen, a Union scientist taking her under his wing. Discovering her talent with science, mainly her fascination with genetics, he soon managed to turn her into a well-groomed Union scientist.
Three years into her time as a scientist, she was able to sneak through security and finally saw her sister. The agents were cruel to her, and Yvonne was no longer the younger sister she remembered. All she could do was get her out of the Union and hope she finds a place to be safe. Her last sighting of her sister was when she gave her a look as she left the Union building, telling Maria how much she hated her for joining the Union.
Maria has taken it upon herself to find a cure, because all these abilities have accomplished was tearing families apart.
