Description SOMEDAY, MY LOVE

Someday, my love,
perhaps when you are sixty-something
and your skin has lost the suppleness of youth,
you will wonder, even worry for a moment,
and will turn to me to ask
only to find me gazing fondly back,
your timeless femininity
reflected in my eyes’ proud adoration.

Then it may occur to you
that it is no palsy of age
that makes these fingers tremble,
reaching for your buttons,
but rather that same eagerness
with which they tremble even now.
And in that moment you will realize
that my heart’s worship, my desire,
was never for your beauty,
but always for that beauty which is you.

Being a "younger person" myself, I can understand the aversion to knowing that physical expression still exists amongst "older people". Still, I happen to find the sentiment endearing and reassuring. Perhaps it's because I'll be getting married soon, but the idea that my Greg will still love me so after many years have passed is comforting and beautiful. I particularly like the second stanza "Then it may occur to you/ that it is no palsy of age/ that makes these fingers tremble,/ reaching for your buttons,/ but rather that same eagerness/ with which they tremble even now."--So lovely!

Thanks, Sarah. I'm glad it speaks to you.

Congratulations to you and Greg. It's a great adventure, and if you play your cards right, you can be sure the physical part will just keep getting better.
