I know my grandmother would love this. She adored hummingbirds .

i think the lil critters are so cute i'm just lucky with the shapes i had from fractals so i could make this one

thankyou so much for the compliment and the on it there is another edit of this laying around somewhere but in brown tones titled 'sparrow' it really give the piece a completely different feel tis why i put them both up again thanks for stopping by

you are very welcome. I am truly inspired by your fractal! It shows what an inventive person can create!

i never really see how i create as that inventive - i just at times st a random batch of fractals going and see what comes out - occasionally i see shapes in them that i can later turn into animals or sometimes figures - think the most delightful 'happy accident' i had like this was with a shape that was like the head of a rose - i only got it as a screen shot though i wished i;d have made a note of how i created it the other piece of mine in this style that surprised me with its popularity ( and the DD it got) was just a cute little cat titled 'tabby...' ther is a debate where this work ought be classes in fractal or digital art - i always class as fractal because the basis for these pieces is fractal ( but a category for 'fractal manipulations' might be an idea )

well, you add more than just the flame and you add elements that show creativity, I think, and imagination.
Yes I saw the tabby on your front page. It is so cute!
Oh yeah, many times when I create something I wish I had written down the steps I took. I am one of these people that generate randoms too, go through them sometimes using scripts and sometimes not, then I save the pars with promise and do that for a while. The I go back and work on them. When I get what I want, and like I post it, but by that time I have forgotten which script I used and who created it. I think mention of them should be included if possible too. So now I have taken to using letters for the scrips I used to title the par with like ,if Shortgreenpig did the script, then I title the par SGP 01 and like that. That is the only way I can keep it straight. Then of course if that person has created more than only one script it gets a little more complicated. Then I have do SPG and the initials of the name of the scrip, And sometimes even then, I forget what all the letters stand for. Yeah, Ain't it fun?

And I agree, there should be a category for "fractal manipulations" I have always had a hard time with knowing exactly what the difference between a "mixed media" image is, in relation to what a "fractal Manipulation" is. To me they are the same, although posted at sites whose rules were that if anything was added, ( a tube, or a layer) anything really that required the use of another program that is not a fractal program to finish creating that image was "mixed media". Even something as simple as the usage of a plugin, or a filter to change or enhance the appearance of the fractal was considered "Mixed Media". But that is exactly what one does in a "Fractal Manipulation".

now talk of script and you start to loose me a little
i just dabble a lot and see what happens - though i find a lot of people mistake some of my insane abstracts for fractal work when most of the time they are generated in photoshop most my fractal work is always random batch generated then edited into some form of animal shape or such

but yes a category for fractal manipulations would be an awesome asset i think and save a lot of 'but its not real fractal art' comments on my work because if you will they are often a 'fractal collage' that is parts of a fractal assembled to make something new there are that many ins and outs of it i suppose i don't knwo much about fractal art & i just about knwo my way around the basics of apophysis a lot of what i do generate boils down to luck

Leanndra51 In reply to rockgem [2009-08-15 01:08:48 +0000 UTC]

Well I have used scripts since I first found Apophysis abut 4 or 5 years ago. But it has gotten so much more complex than it used to be. Right now on my computer, I have 5 different versions of apophysis. Some of the scripts that I have only work with certain versions and it is very disheartening to try to figure out which ones work with what programs. Some of the scripts reqire "plug-ins" for the scripts to work. If you don't have the right plugins, you won't get the effect you want. However one of the things I notice with using scripts is that a lot of the work that they generate looks quite a bit alike. Some people can change the flame enough so that a person can't tell which script it came from, from looking at it. However a lot of flames created by different artists using the same script, look very much alike except for the gradients.

Yes, we need a gallery designation for fractal manipulations. And I know what you mean about those "purists" who think that way. I look at it like this, and I might be wrong, but if it is more fractal than it is manipulated effects, then it is a fractal.

I used to run random batches at 200 at a time, then do a run through and pick out the ones that I thought would make good flames. I think a person gets a "feel" for what will work and what won't. I have so many par files, I have some clear back from 2006, (saved them to a cd. So if you need any starter flames, note me and I can get your email addy and send some to you.

well i discovered apophysis after some coaxing form =VirginPrune at the beginning of the year so any progress i made has only been over the past few months so i'm till very much at the 'what does this do?' stage and when i get a pretty pattern generated from random batches i save it -( especially if i see part of a shape that i might manipulate into somethign new)

i usually run about 25 to 50 random batches at a time just to see what comes out of it

generally its hard to define how much manipulation is 'too much' with my work most of the time all the parts are there i just need to put them together.

it caused a bit of upset for me once because the club ~FractalManipulations ( before it closed) had a small argument that 'cute animals etc would not be accepted it was a long winded process to clarify this in turn the idea was changed to 'the addition of cute animals etc'

but now fortunately we have =FracMan and what i do is accepted as just another part of fractal manipulations and thus far i don't think i have found any other artists as such on DA who really work with fractals as i do as in creating almost collages of them.

i have both yim and msn and the relevant addys are on my DA main page so snag them from there if you like

thankyou so much for the offer of some help its very much appreciated

Sorry , I am just getting back to you on this. Yes, I was a member of fractalmanipulations before it closed too. I thought their guidelines were stricter than most but I enjoyed being a member, and of course, I love To me, anything that is not strictly a fractal is "manipulated". I have been at some sites in the past that when they did a fractal contest, the artists were not able to use UF because of the ability to add layers to it.

It is funny about how people view different things. For me personally I have never considered XenoDream to be a "fractal program" but rather a modeling program that makes fractal type images. Because XenoDream is so much more than what a fractal program is. Usually when I comment on a XD image I will refer to it as a "construct" because to me XD constructs different things. Very beautiful and very elaborate things.

Also, KPT FraxPlorer (which I have, and love) isn't really a "fractal program" either but a set of plugins or filters, that can be used in PSP or Photoshop.
And here the category is so broad that XD, Fraxplorer and the other fractal programs we are aware of fit together.

Okay sorry about the
Will go to your page and then send you some starter pars.

its fine no need to say sorry

idid enjoy being a member of ~FractalManipulations but i do prefer the slightly more laid back attitude of =FracMan if only because it gives fractal artists a lot more scope to combine things such as photo manipulations with fractal pieces

viewpoints are always going to differ and you can't please everyone so i figure i might as well just please myself first and i certainly enjoy what i create

i can honestly confess to not having heard of any of those programs maybe in time the more i dabble i will find out more about them and give them a go

i don't mind long replies especially when the conversations is most informative and useful thankyou so much
and a big thankyou for the pars i got the email and as soon as i am not bogged down with an endless to do list i shall try them out again a really big thankyou
