This is a hard one to have concrete description because I did this free style mostly at night time… a sketch of it came first with absolutely no thought of meaning. The pen sketch was a project for 2d design for a surrealisms project (the teacher kind of picked a good subject for once ) When we did critic on the sketch of my work that looked very alike to this painting. Several students explained that this painting felt to them that the artist who did this was confused, slightly sad. Also that he had a lot of things in his mind atm… and also slightly isolated… and like my life is still under construction in a way.
That is what they said basically and they got my state of mind in that moment in time and that is why I decided to paint it.
While I was painting it I realized that this painting did have that feeling they described but than I looked into the painting more and saw that I basically painted my family…
I have 3 brothers but one brother is in another city in his own house so I did not add him in…
The painting has two males one male is tided by a rope to the middle mask which is female the rope is put like an infinity sign forever love. (My mother and father) the far left face is my brother. And I am in my fathers mouth the little green character. The white path crosses through the mouths of all meaning we are all in the same path we still live together. And my father still has a lot of advice to give me so in a way he has a lot of say about decision I make in life still… the rope that ties the right male mask to the ground by wooden pole means he is still very much in charge of us and he is tied to the ground more than my mom and brother to job...
Surrealisms is your unconscious and I think in this painting some how I did that… because I really did not think of prior feeling or actually planed it… it just came to me.
Some things I still can not explain are the paint bucket and the boat… or the shallow water… The bucket is half explained to me I think it means that I have left many things in my life unfinished un painted… and yes I have left some of my art works for a year or so not finished… and just now I am getting to finish them.

I always like a good surreal peice. It takes more thought I feel, or at the very least healthier then normal imagination. Brains and imagination is something I've been lacking lately, so I like to be reminded these things still exist.

The style reminds me a bit of Dali...and there is an Esher-like perspective "mistake" (I think you wanted that, didn´t you? )

salvador dali incarnate more like it. exceptional. I would recommend that you try the holding a spoon over a plate while falling asleep trick that dali did for some of his surrealistic/dreamworld images. I love this though - very good and great descrip.

Without the description, I would've told you to lay off the drigs, but since reading it, this has become such an insightful piece!

Just a simply amazing talent is shown in this, and I can't find the words in me to compliment this enough.
Adding it to my flavorites will allow me to come back and marvel at it when I need a reason to keep making art.
This was an insurmountably amazing way of expressing yourself, whether it was surreal, or subliminal.

When I saw this, I was just in awe. While my knowledge in the painting medium is lacking.. after I read your comment I grew a deeper understanding of what you had done. I can understand about just doing something without thought or plan. Then again as a writer that happens alot. I wish I could describe to you what you alloud me to feel with this painting. Amazing, absolutely amazing.

this is AMAZING. i love surrealist work, and salvador dali is my favorite artist of all time, and this image reminds me of his works. i know you've been told that already, but i had to mention it again. if i were to have seen this in a gallery i would've sworn he had painted it. this is so great!
