Description

For OC Training!  For once, I'm actually finishing something early! Here's a description of both Flames' species and her well... everything I guess  Before you read this, however, Corruption is a disease on Flames' planet, Ergotopia, which causes other chuas like herself to turn on anyone without it. The diseased chuas band together and are hostile towards any uninfected chuas.

<----->

Element

Fire

Weapon Name and Type

Shadowsteel, a mass of black titanium capable of morphing into any shape Flames sees fit as long as its mass isn't bigger than its original state.

Occupation and Goal

Niran, better known as Flames, is an elite assassin within a terrorist organization called Solarfall, known for constantly fighting for power over any official form of government as well as any smaller organization that dares to step in its path. After losing her parents to a pair of corrupted chuas at a young age, the leader of Solarfall himself, Huojin, took her in and brutally trained her into a cold-blooded killing machine. Once she became an adult (16 for chuas), she was forced to enter into the Ergotopian Protection Service (EPS) Task Force as a double agent. Her mission was, and currently is to slowly tear apart the government from inside by gradually taking out its strongest forces. With this done, Solarfall will gain control over majority of Ergotopia, transforming into a world power.

Attributes

Race: Chua (Tier 2 Evolution Stage)

Height: 5 inches

Weight: 5.7 ounces

Although she isn't very strong, Flames is incredibly fast, easily capable of temporarily breaching Mach 33 whenever she has the stamina. Using this agility, she's capable of sneaking around, seemingly turning invisible for a moment as she speeds from one area to the next. When engaging in hand-to-hand combat, Flames waits for her opponent to make a move and counters based on that. This redirection-based combat allows her to exploit the flaws in her opponent's attacks to return the damage to them tenfold.

Abilities

Basic Pyrokinesis via Elemental Energy (EE) Manipulation

EE Immolation allows fire chuas to ignite their bodies, giving them temporary immunity to intense heat while burning anything that comes in contact with them.

Every chua is born with a different fighting style, those being tanks, elementals, rushers, and balancers. Flames is a balancer, making up for her lack of special abilities by training to ultilize weak versions of both rusher and elemental moves. Her currently abilities are the following:

Any special ability other than EE Immolation that Flames uses will require her to use her burning soul mode (as seen in the picture), which is normally used as a trump card depending on the circumstances. It can't be used often because the the use of this ability puts major strain on the user's soul. This strain can lead to physical, mental, and spiritual damage, Flames' left eye being an example.

EE Bind allows the user to link some of their elemental energy into a weapon or tool to make it stronger. Flames uses this ability by morphing Shadowsteel into two large spheres and binding them together from varying distances, creating an instantaneous beam of fire. She calls it a pyro-surge, and the stream of energy is powerful enough to not only crush the target due to the speed that the two points of energy connect at, but also incinerate the target with its immense heat.

EE Teleportation allows the user to surround themself in an EE Pocket, a pocket dimension in which items can be put into, to transport up to 2 meters away instantly. This ability takes relatively no stamina to use, making it extremely effective for mobility.

EE Ignition allows a fire user to set a target on fire after staring at it without losing focus for 5 seconds.

Afterimage Strikes allows the user to focus EE into their limbs and increase their natural abilities for a short amount of time. This enables enhanced movement like breaching Mach 33, which Flames does on a regular basis. Oddly enough, the user is capable of controlling whether or not the ability creates a sonic boom.

Personality and Perspective

Flames, whenever she isn't in a stressful setting, is extremely kind and outgoing. It may not always be genuine, but she tries her best to make her colleagues in the EPS Task Force comfortable as though they're her family. It makes her feel much happier about herself as well. She trains her best friend, Jökul, a chua who was also orphaned and treated poorly. She serves as a mentor to him, trying to be a good example. Her biggest worry when working at the force is that one day, she may be forced to bring down the leader, Lady Seraphina, who is yet another one of her close friends.

Whenever she's in Solarfall, however, not only is Flames addressed by her real name, Niran, but she's much more pessimistic and aggressive than whenever she works at the EPS Task Force. She's very quick to anger, and the only things she shows affection to is either rookie assassins, who are around Jökul's age and can relate to her, or her valuable belongings that have sentimental value to her from when her parents were alive. This personality becomes even more negative when she begins her missions. The brutal training Huojin used to put Flames through rings in the back of her head, throwing her into a state of violence as she assassinates her target, or targets. Putting fear into the minds of even her fellow elite assassins, they named her assassin alter-ego Morana, a name that means death.

Weaknesses

Flames' weaknesses are mostly linked to her left eye, which makes her attacks unstable and sometimes self-harming. She's also blind in that eye. Water-based attacks weaken her fire, and lightning-based attacks trigger her electrophobia. This fear stems from the murder of her parents, which was done with lightning EE.

Story Theme: Zedd and Kesha - True Colors (Nolan van Lith Remix)

tl;dr Flames is an assassin that's a double agent to a government force in which she has to essentially kill her government friends so her evil assassins buddies can take over the world but she doesn't want to cause she loves her government friends :>

EDIT: Added a better description of Flames' wings and how they aren't used for flying, but for gliding

Hello there, here is the first of the three (3) critiques, as promised in the Winners' prizes for the OC-Training Contest Raffle!

Character Design:

Your eye for design really shows a strong sensibility of originality, as well as fluidly expressive. The fictional species of the Chua is fascinating, as they appear wholly original, with some elements similar to other species. Their powers feature an impressive array of diverse abilities, but none of this appears unnatural, as their anatomy and physiology support their abilities, such Elemental Energy Manipulation with said elements of lightning and pyrokinesis. The ability of EE Immolation is fascinating as well, as it works with an unusual law of physics that something absorbed in the element, can be immune for a brief time, from the harmful effects of said element.

Flames/Niran shows an imaginative design- her body and facial features work well, blending with the anatomy required to produce the powers of the chuas, and her intensely expressive face shows an equally vivid and intense personality as well.

The details such as the wings for gliding, the tail for balancing, and the footpads for heightened seismic perception are impressive well-developed and again, create a sense of realism and naturalistic anatomy.

Story:

Again, your sense of originality emerges strongly in how you created not only the concept of Flames's world, but careful detailing of the environment, the social and political climate, and the complications of political intrigue combined with an epidemic infection affecting the society Flames must navigate through.

Flames's backstory created valid justification for her biases and views, and her own complicated struggles working as a double agent but also developing inevitable friendships with her political enemies because of their close proximity as they work on a daily basis, it also gives Flames's character and story a marked sense of realism- such contradictions can be found in history and even in the present, within society, politics and movement of factions.

Your limitations on the chuas' powers also emanates a logical sense- powers all have their limit mark, and often, useage of power can hold harmful effects, as seen with Flames's over-use of power, weakening her left eye.

Would extended over-use lead to eventual blindness or not?

The powers play integral parts in the story, often serving as agents for the characters to accomplish a task or commit an act with consequences, negative or positive. The awesome nature of these powers never once feels tacked-on or over-powered, but a good balance of limitation, side effect, and catalyst agent.

Flames's outward expressions of her personality juxtaposes, and the lines between what is false manipulation and her true feelings and views become blurred over time with her assassins and the government figures she has developed a sense of camaraderie with. It definitely creates for a compelling characterization, as well as an intriguing story, since the outcome may go either way, depending on her choices and what will eventually happen with this struggle and clash of the EPS Task and the government.

The character of Huojin does indeed form an obstacle for Flames- does she ever fully break from Huojin's control? What sort of character is Houjin? Is he brutal because he believes it's necessary for survival or because of more selfish reasons? How does he view Flames? As an expandable assassin, or someone he prides himself in creating into a hardened assassin? Or is there a more humane layer to their connection?

Art:

Rich, bold and striking are the first three adjective that instantly conjure up upon seeing your art. Your use of color is bold, and makes for arresting designs. The color schemes are excellent, never garish or over-saturated, and you make good use of gradient and smooth line art.

Speaking of which, your line art is bold, smooth, and ultimately clean- it has a fantastic professional style, like an animated series or video game. Creating a logical and natural anatomy for an original species can be especially daunting, and this is where many artist falter, but here, with Flames in particular, you manage to create an anatomy that is believable, practical for Flames and her species adaptation for power, environment and work.

Your environmental backgrounds are well aligned, have a sense of dimension and space, and show strong composition. The colors are likewise striking, complementing the bold color palettes of your character designs.

Conclusion:

Overall, you have created a compelling political struggle, further complicated by one character's struggle with both sides and the collective complication of the chuas' powers. You have created a strong element of realism in this struggle, by showing that government and order, as well political power and factions, are not as black and white as many would presume.

Your world-building and storytelling is exceptionally strong, as you show motivation behind characters' actions and create sympathy for the characters by showing their own perspective and what drives them to their actions.

I'm glad you like her expressions! The ears move around a lot, and they tend to style it like it's hair. The hard part about her having split personalities basically is that it's hard to show in the little number of tasks we have lol

Flames/Niran definitely has a hard life- now she deals with the conflict of both sides- does she ever leave both sides, or join one side eventually?

Her abilities sound amazing-esp her pyro-surge ability! It sounds a bit terrifying but effective!

You mentioned lightning-based attack trigger her electrophobia- what effect does electricity have on fire-based chuas? And the opposite- what effect does fire have on eletric-based chuas?

Ronan-X In reply to Tete-DePunk [2019-03-19 19:41:27 +0000 UTC]

At the moment, Flames doesn't exactly have a choice but to be loyal to Solarfall; she isn't the only double agent in the EPS Task Force. They're littered throughout each and every part of it, some serving as rookies, others as medics, etc. Their initial strategy is to tear the force apart from the inside. In fact, if you noticed the symbol on Morana's cloak, the two shapes at the bottom represent Solarfall hiding in different areas to slowly pry apart the top shape, which represents the EPS.

I'm glad you like her abilities too! I might animate it so it's easier to visualize

They both affect each other relatively the same, but lightning EE can cause violent convulsions on top of intense the intense burns fire causes, making it far more powerful. The reason it triggers her electrophobia is that Flames watched her parents get killed in front of her. The reason why they were killed is gonna be explained in other tasks lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tete-DePunk In reply to Ronan-X [2019-03-19 21:15:43 +0000 UTC]

Ah, this is very clever symbolism, esp with the system being brought down by being taking apart gradually, almost subtly, like an erosion.

That would be awesome if you could animate her abilities!

Ah, so Lightning EE is far more dangerous than Fire EE, then?

Flames/Niran has gone through so much, esp seeing her parents killed in front of her. I deeply hope she finds her peace and happiness in her story development journey.

Lightning EE is wayyyy more dangerous. It’s one of the strongest elements on Ergotopia, in fact. We’ll just have to wait and see how things turn out for Flames lol

Rarely, but she normally feels nothing for those she kills. Most of the people she’s hired to kill are dangerous gang leaders. As an elite assassin, she gets the more dangerous jobs while the lower ranks deal with people who are much weaker and were targeted over petty things.
