Tried my hand at an epic pixel piece. Inspired by this lovely work: [link]So, I really wanted to make something simple but powerful. Because with the huge spectrum of differences among Sonic fans, things get really muddled up and drama-tastic. So here's something I hope every fan can enjoy. I really wanted to give the emerald justice as the mysterious, powerful thing that it is. Hope I succeeded!
My favorite version of Sonic's ever-changing design is from Sonic CD, during the animated scenes, because of the simple and charming design. [link]

ok first off, I honestly hate sonic with all my guts, fantards ruined it
but this! this makes me actually like it!
It is the best sonic fanart I think I have ever seen. What you did with the green was absolutely stunning and the pixel style makes it look all the better!

I only had an interest in the orginal video games, where all sonic did was run and get rings, but i did like this one game that had Chows or some blue thing XD Never even knew there was a TV show

Ditto, the only games that really clicked for me are the Genisis games. Not that the new ones are horrible, they're just very different, targeted towards a totally different audience, which is fine.
You're thinking of Sonic Adventure, and I admit I do have a little bit of nostalgia for that one, because it was the first 3-d Sonic game

Oh my, this is magnificent! I adore your choice of bold green colors in this one. I can feel the energy emanating from that powerful emerald! Wonderful composition. This almost looks like stained glass. Very cool!

You're very welcome! Though I feel my feedback was a little short-winded, I am glad you could appreciate it. ^^
I say to keep the sharp look to it, as the stained glass appeal is very eye-catching and unique.
The only thing I'd say that could really give this picture some extra 'oomph' is to add some thin green highlights to Sonic. This would make it look like the power of the emerald is really surrounding and engulfing him! Against my better judgment, I'll use one of my own images as a quick example. Keep in mind, it's not perfect by any means-- but the idea is that adding some glow can really make the character 'pop'! Especially on the undersides, where shadows appear darkest. [link]
Hope that helps a little. Regardless, this looks terribly awesome. I hope to see more like it from you! It's a very unique style that many people could grow to love. ^^

Giving Sonic green reflected light on his spikes is exactly what I wanted to do! I actually use that technique all the time. It's funny that you suggested it too 
(P.S. That Sonic Riders art is awesome!)
I'd like to keep developing this pixel art style, without anti-aliasing, because it may be interesting and I'm planning on using it for a future project, but at the same time it might become very difficult... Well, you don't know til you try!

It's never a bad idea to experiment! I need to practice what I preach more often, in fact. x3 If it doesn't work out, then just revert it. That's the beauty of digital art, lol.

I keep them pretty small, so it makes them much easier to animate, and keep the correct proportions. it takes a while to get it to look how i want it, but the same can be said for anything I've posted in my gallery.
