Description
Em Parker/Fangirl was originally a character created by and myself to thank Earth27FanGirl for her help in the earliest days of Earth-27. Over the seasons of Earth-27, this character has evolved from a simple employee at Arkham Asylum to a fourth-wall breaking superheroine based on the character Ultra Comics from the Multiversity, became a member of the Challengers, and then discovered her "true origin" just prior to Earth-27's first real reboot caused by drama outside of my control. As the reboot gave me time to reflect on where I would have gone and where I could still go, I continued to work on the character's true origins, which I had kept from Earth27FanGirl at her request as she preferred learning of the stuff as we went. Well, as I prepared to bring the Endless into Earth-27, I was delighted to find that the character of Rose Walker from Sandman had been given a redesign in the pages of the recent Sandman Universe series and now looked identical to our design for Em Parker.
The more I reread about Rose (having needed to refresh my memory as it had been some time since I read Sandman), the more similarities I found. I was inspired to integrate the character of Rose Walker into Em's character. Earth27FanGirl and I always wanted Em to be a fan favorite character (hence her hero moniker: "Fangirl") and while she's certainly been a divisive character, I've always enjoyed writing this character and I hope that those who don't like the character will now approach the character with an open mind and those who already love her will continue to do so.
