Description The Mount Edgecumbe Volcano. This is not Mount Redoubt, nor is it anywhere near Mount Redoubt.

Beautiful. I do think this is the first time I've seen a volcano with snow on it too. At least in memory. 0_o

So what's the story behind this one? Still active?

Actually, there's a lot of volcanoes around the world that peak above the snowline. Mount Saint Helens (USA), Mauna Loa (USA), Mount Fuji (Japan) and Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania) are all volcanoes that have snow on them year-round. Like Kilimanjaro, Mt. Edgecumbe is dormant.

Ack, silly me. For some reason I keep forgetting that Mount Fuji is a volcano. As for others... I guess I need to brush up on my geography. Two of the names do sound familiar though.

Thanks! You need a good, clear day (and those are rare in Southeast Alaska) but Mt. Edgecumbe is visible from just about everywhere in Sitka. It's neat!
