Description
Full title: CAPITULATION TO THE INEVITABILITY OF HUMAN RE-DESIGN18" x 18". Acrylic on canvas ~ 9/2010
This is my submission for the "THINGS TO COME" exhibition in New York City, opening 9/9/2010 at the BOLD HYPE gallery, ([link] )
The title pretty much expresses my idea; I believe that in the not too distant future we will accelerate the augmentation of our bodies using technology to an unprecedented degree. What began with wooden legs, hearing aids and eye glasses will become biomechanical “super-limbs”, super-vison eye implants and computer brain inseminations. I foresee surgically implanted communication devises, (Hey! I’d get one, wouldn’t you?) and … Well, only your imagination is the limit, and we all know there is no limit to the human imagination. I am one who believes that if we don’t kill ourselves in the next few decades, we will begin to push beyond Darwinian evolution. We will begin to “self-evolve” and “self-invent”. I foresee the next revolution of mankind being that of reinventing ourselves in the literal sense. We will become something all together new! I may be to old to see the day that death is “cured”, but some of you reading this now might actually live to see this.
My “self-evolved” character in this painting has reinvented himself to a point that he’s barely recognizable as a human. He is a “Post-Human”.
Eventually all human beings will need to capitulate to the inevitability of our self re-design or parish. Evolution is evolution after all.
This is a 're-painting' of a smaller piece I did in 2008, "SUPPLICANT" ([link] ) This preceeding painting can also be seen here in my DA gallery.

I like that - but how would hearing aids look like in the time you have done this drawing on? When will it be, anyway?

Wow. Awesome painting. I love the yellow and blue glass boxes effect around the head. Kinda like cubism and i realy like the translucent skin on the other figure

Very interesting theory. ALso, it spawns interesting and disturbing stories: In the gray area between partial resistance to reinvention and the dawn of the Post-Human Era, would there be couples of a "normal" man and an unrecognizable "super" woman and viceversa? Would there be extremists on both sides? The background of the image is either abstract and cold or dystopian. I must say, your vision of super evolution is grim. An elevation beyond what we know as "human", but without retaining the positive aspects of humanity or making a better world, almost as if the super evolution was a necessary procedure to survive in a super polluted, resourceless and disease-ridden world. Your paintings are really inspiring .

so ill, sick, there's a visionary quality to some of your sci-fi pieces.

I always enjoy your commentary below each of your pieces and I think you always been pretty much spot on with your ideas.
Post-human is a great definition of where we already are in our society, for example we have artificial organs to replace the stagnant, rotten flesh we've created within ourselves and there are no genetic matches so it seems like the only option but it really isn't. But personally I don't know what the answer is I just know that we're heading in the wrong direction.
It's true that evolution has always been a matter of survival and the weak will inevitably be killed or enslaved and this new age mentality that everyone is absorbing mindlessly is adding to that infeasible standard. They keep telling us that humankind needs to ascend into the new man, which is really just the old man with shiny, new packaging and a whole new mindset.
The choice is clear that we can either change or die and once the ones who are REALLY in control finally take over and try to establish their so-called utopia it will probably be too late for the free thinking people on this age.
All that crazy babble aside, another great piece and I wish I could get my ass down to NY to see this exhibit because I'm sure there would be some other very interesting work there as well.

This is wonderful work and very, very reflective too. Seems like something H.R. Giger would do, albeit he would do it darker though. Lol.
As for my opinion behind it, I can't say where I stand on the matter. I'm sort of in-between. I would love for groundbreaking technology to occur, but we really have no way to foresee if this super evolutionary explosion would be beneficial. Certainly it comes with risks, plus profit, but I have a feeling that far in the future there will be those who wish for the ordinary and with gain there is always lost, right?

I am hoping we can continue on progressing immensely without killing each other but I hope we can learn to progress without destroying the environment (looking at your smogged up background )
Anywho, I absolutely love an appreciate all the details you put into your pieces, I respect those who are willing to sit down and put their all into their pieces. Superb job.

I suppose, mankind will kill itself soon. And dolphins will take our place.

Well, if we do kill ourselves off, and I think it;s VERY possible, I hope that dolphins will survive us and take over. Sometimes I think that they deserve the planet more than our species does.

I've read recently about dolphins. Their brain is bigger 1,4 times than human brain and it has twice more convolutions. They have complex social system. They care about the old and the sick. They have language that contains at least 14000 words and they are able to give names.

I believe that to, but first society has to overcome the "but god... blah blah... its immoral... bah.. we should stay like nature made us... blah blah..." crap and I have small expectations for that to happen in the next 100-200 years... anyway great and unique designs (as always) but if the humans would really reinvent themselves, they wouldn't look like that

If this does not happen in 50 years, we will have destroyed ourselves.
It's already begun. "iPod 2021 will be an implant!"
Don't be so sure about "looks" ... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
This image is "representational", and was simply fun to create.

yes you're right with everything, I'm also very curious about the future and yes, if humanity will overcome its flaws nothing will be impossible. I'm thankful that I was born in this era, I think this era is advancing very fast (in science) like none before...
