Description And so! It is DONE!

I wore it for a little at Sakura-Con 2012, but ended up taking it off to opt for a more comfortable wardrobe. I wasn't feeling so hot that weekend

But I'm pleased with it! :3 there definately need to be some improvements, but so far, I really, really like it! I can't wait to get my Sephiroth and Genesis versions made :3

This Corset is inspired by the bracers worn by the SOLDIER's in Final Fantasy VII, which is property of Square-Enix.

I used a low-grade upholstery vinyl for the body, a outdoor canvas for interfacing and flannel for the lining. The corset is bound in the same material and has treated black iron grommets up the back. D rings and vinyl straps hold the SOLDIER piece to the corset and the two buckle straps were actually purse straps I purchased to cheat with.

It is boned with flat steel and quality plastic boning for flexability on the sides.

This corset is a labor of love, designed and constructed by me, but is inspired by Square-Enix's masterpiece, FFVII!

Great for cosplay ;3

Comments are appriciated and earn llamas! :3

CrabofDoom is right. This is an awesome corset.

Too bad I'm alittle too big in the waist to wear something like it.

Thank you :3

And I don't believe that! All shapes and sizes can wear corsets :3 it's all about finding the right type to flatter your shape. I've done corsets for almost all body type ^^

I really am :3 Unless you're pregnant, I wouldn't advise wearing a corset if with child... I know they did it once upon a time, but, sooo not healthy XD I wore one when I was three months pregnant, very briefly and never again while pregnant. Not very comfortable and not at all safe XD

I love this, but just a suggestion: maybe made the stitching for the Soldier emblem in a dark grey so it shows up better? As fun as it is, if you can't see the emblem, you can't really appreciate the symbolism. Awesome piece, though.

I was thinking about that after so many photos where you can't see the emblem surfaced, I'm thinking I may use a lighter thread, or possibly try a few other different options to try and make it a bit more obvious. Though using more of a grey/charcoal, possibly even more on the silvery color (but not metallic!) thread would be a better option

Thanks for commenting! :3

Thanks :3 I'm rather proud of it ^__^ I'm so glad it turned out! Though improvement for next basic one I make... ZIPPER. Somewhere... but there must be a zipper XD In the Sephiroth version design there are zippers on each side of the laces in the back >.>

imacetra In reply to RubyRiddleDesign [2012-04-13 03:30:32 +0000 UTC]

Can't wait to see the Sephiroth one. Yeah zippers would probably make it easier. Lace on corsets usually take help to put on and I find it frustrating sometimes when I cosplay. Luckily I usually have a bf to help. X3 Your skills look top notch, so I'm sure you will figure out how to work a zipper in.

I'm eager to get started on that one :3 I aim to have a photoshoot late summer/early fall with the prototype, plus the Genesis and Sephiroth versions, and a Male version of the basic.
It helps to have someone to aid in lacing you in! I've been self lacing for about 8 years now, I don't trust anyone to lace me in again after a rather unpleasant spell at a Renaissance festival where I was laced in too tightly so early in the day >.> I'm rather silly... but I need to find a good lacing partner! T-T

I had that happen when I bought one of those pretty leather corsets at the renaissance fest. The vendor wanted to help put it on and when he asked how it felt I told him good because I could still breath. Probably shouldn't have said that because he told me he could fix that and tightened it to the point of unbearable. lol

I haven't posted any of it, but I might have a few pics somewhere. It is really pretty dark leather with a green leaf scroll on the front. I might have a pic on my Facebook. Let me look and I will post a link or load it on here.

Oh my gosh! I would love to have one of these! xD

It's so well done! I can see why you would want to change out of it, though. xD Corset's aren't the best for breathing.

The corset is gorgeous, though! <3 So in love with it. xD

Hehe, thank you so much! :3

I may be taking comissions for these in the future, once I get the Sephiroth and Genesis prototypes made. But unfortunately they will be spendy... -_-; the time spent and working with this material was a bit of a pain... but they are worth it!!!

I'm usually used to wearing corsets but the weekend of Sakura-Con I wasn't feeling so great... and tromping around Seattle in a tight laced vinyl corset was not appealing XD Corsets are amazing though!

I'm glad you like it! This was a labor of love so I'm all stoked people like it!

BritishMindslave In reply to RubyRiddleDesign [2012-04-13 02:26:45 +0000 UTC]

It's a good thing that you put so much love into it! It makes everything better. xD

They should be expensive! I wouldn't even think they'd be any less than $150. I went to a Ren fair and their corsets are about that much or more. They take time to make, plus all that material, which is usually expensive.

Sakura-con seems like it would be hot. xD I've worn a pleather coat in Baltimore during the summer, so I understand how that feels!

RubyRiddleDesign In reply to BritishMindslave [2012-04-13 02:29:44 +0000 UTC]

:3 yay!

For my corsets I generally charge between $80 and $300, depending on the style and all the bells and whistles, but for this one x.x with all the straps and rings, I wouldn't let it go for less than $300. It may seem like alot but, I want to also upgrade the quality of the vinyl so it will be trickier to sew if I go with a higher quality, and therefore thicker, material

I also charge more because I go through about 2 - 3 sewing machines a year now x.x I kill them with all the corsets I've made XD XD XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BritishMindslave In reply to RubyRiddleDesign [2012-04-13 02:35:47 +0000 UTC]

That makes sense. $300 seems reasonable for the amount of time you'd put into it. That, and the expensive leather or extremely thick material. xD Then there's the thread and replacing all those broken needles!

Shit! xD That sucks! I had a sewing machine, but then it decided to crap out on me while I was making a costume. It snaps the thread when it's just a little too tight and even then the thread is too loose on the stitching.

Sometimes I have that problem with mine. I take the baseplate off and take an air canister to it to clean it all out and it usually works better. All that fabric dust collects in there and gums up the machine pretty bad :/ I almost freaked out when I was on a deadline for some Burlesque costumes and it started doing that to me, but my husband took the baseplate off, cleared it all out and it worked like a dream... he saved the day! And all the pretty costumes for my girls to wear (and take off XD) on stage! :3

Awesome! xD
I wish that were the problem with mine. I'm only a novice with them, but I know how to work them. I can only imagine how stressful that would be. x_x

RubyRiddleDesign In reply to BritishMindslave [2012-04-13 02:45:10 +0000 UTC]

Sewing is one of the few things I do decently XD so if my machine goes out, I tend to get a little crazy
And thanks for the watch! ^____^

BritishMindslave In reply to RubyRiddleDesign [2012-04-13 11:52:02 +0000 UTC]

No problem! You deserve it. c:

I last-minute costumes like crazy. Sometimes they come out bad because of it, but the last two Pyramid Head costumes I've made actually came out decent when made two days before the con. xD
As long as the helmet was made a week or so in advance, anyway. x_x

I have a habit of doing stuff last minute...trying to remedy that! I've already got my costumes planned for next years Sakura-Con :3
And Pyramid Head freaks me out, but the cosplays are always impressive Are there pics on your page?
