Description
Various notes, collected and done over a few days, from different scraps of paper put into one sheet.Basically, observations of constructions guidelines, trying to work out how these characters work. These are my observations, and should NOT be taken as official notes for these characters.
Plus, a few extra notes for people watching this, to think about volumes, proportions, perspective when drawing. I didn't clean these sketches much, wanting to show most of the rough lines underneath to show structure.
Plus a little doodle added in the bottom left corner. How I would love to tell Iroh's story (if I knew what it was).
Col erase (blue and Tuscan red), plus HB pencils.
Except for Thutmoses up there on the right (mine!), all the other characters belong to Mike, Brian, Nickelodeon, Viacom. If I forgot someone, let me know and I'll add you up.

you always seem so hard on yourself when it comes to Sokka, and quite frankly, it's actually one of the better drawn Sokka's, even from the show. In some episodes...and more frequently in season 2...he has those typical large anime eyes which...just doesn't look good on the majority of the cast.
Who is that person on the upper right next to Aang? I was thinking it was his season 3 look in which I heard he would have a new hairstyle...but then I noticed the...other name and was kind of relieved. Is it an OC or a character from a different project?

I really like the expression Aang has in the bottom right corner... His eyes and eyebrows are great! (I should try practicing on emotion more... I have been trying to study the shape of people's heads. I still can't figure out how to get a person's head looking straight on, though.)

It toook me a long while to do a decent drawing from someone lookng straight on. I still struggle from time to time, but less.
You really need to align the eyes, so not one is floating higher than the others. Oh, and leave enough space from the eyes to the edge of the face: I used to make the face too narrow. Top of ears are lined up with the eyes (glasses need to rest on them).

From my observations, the edge of the eyes are at the edge of the face's front, but when looking head-on (why's that remind me of a commercial?) you can see some of the sides of the face (so that would mean that the eyes can't be too close to the edge). I've also heard in a high school class that the ears are from the eyebrows to the nose.
But what keeps bugging me is how big the neck is and how long to make a face... (The neck seems to be about the width of a face, but it doesn't look right when I draw it that way, so I think it's a little smaller. And I've been trying to find a way to measure the basic dimensions of the head, but to no avail. - side of a head seems to be circular, but not the front...)
If you're interested, I could put up some of my quick sketches and you could tell me if you see the problems... but I doubt either of us has the time.

There are some very good anatomy books that go into details for head construction and proportions.
Hmmm, indeed, wish I had the time to make nitpicky corrections. Beside, it also works better if I went and did corrections straight over it, instead of just writing about it. Ask me again, maybe after July. I should be a bit more free then (yeah, right, but one can hope)

I don't really want to buy anything, and I'm the type to think of looking in the instruction manual as cheating, but I know that you do a really nice job...
I actually doodled around in one of my classes yesterday. It'll be called "KyokoSketches" in my scraps. If you want to look at my sketch, you can, but you don't have to - or you could wait until after July. (I did her head about four different ways, but I cheated in the straight on one, because I lined up the height of her head with the other one or two pictures.) I'm somewhat happy with her there... But I redid the size of her eyes a few times.
