Description
A grove of oak trees at Millook Woods in Cornwall, an area of ancient woodland managed by the Woodland Trust. This woodland is pretty remote (no parking anywhere near and the roads in the area are crazy steep one track affairs anyway) so the woodland is pristine, it is like stepping back in time.Canon 20D + 17-40L

Thank you! Yes I can imagine they could look a bit scary especially in bad light. On the day I was there the sun was out and the place felt very very calm and relaxing. Oh and your English is very good, much better than my French!

thanks but i don't think so!
you are right in winter and in night i think it looks like "Wuthering Heights"
"I'm come home, I'd lost my way on the moor! I'm come home!!"
brrr

Yes I think it would be very much like Wuthering Heights in the wrong weather. Actually there is a location on Dartmoor with even more amazing twisted oak trees that is definitely straight out of that book. I don't have any photos from there myself, but do a search for "wistmans wood" here on DA.

i did your search and i am really impress! this trees must be very old and have some manipulations (I don't know if i am clear) in france this kind of trees are often protect, they are very rare (unusual/uncommon? i don't know the right translation)
when i imagine the broceliand's wood, i imagine a lot of this kind of tree... did you ever heard of Broceliande?

Yes the trees at Wistmans Wood are stunted and twisted because their roots are among the rocks and boulders and because Dartmoor gets terrible weather. They are indeed protected and there's plans to try and encourage them to expand, but the trouble is they grow so slowly. I hadn't heard of Broceliande but i just seached for some images and it looks wonderful, some of the huge beech trees there are incredible. And I was just reading how it is linked into the legends of King Arthur too!

yes they are the tumb of Merlin by the legend and some dolmen in the middle of the forrest, a lot of creature (named bugale an noz too) lived overthere but now all the forest is destroyed... (broceliand is a legend but it exist) Now if you want to visit it, in bretagne there are a part of this century wood name ForΓͺt de Paimpol... if you want to visit it may you will see a korrigan ^^

A forest with such incredible trees and the chance to see a Korrigan, what could be better. If (no, make that *when*) I'm in Bretagne again I will definitely pay it a visit.

Yes trees are very much my passion. All wildlife really, but especially trees. And as for the korrigans, I've just been reading the legends and I don't fancy that fate so I'll take care

I hope for you!
it is increasingly (more and more) rare that some people are interessed by trees! it is very original. I like trees but it is not a passion, walk in forrest(/wood?) yes but not the trees, i think it is very harm (/damage /pity /decay) for me...
my passion is the celtic world and medievil... animals too but i don't know why i make an overdose of dolphins and labrador (maybe because i see them whereever in tatoo )
in this time i try to learn how to recognise the birds ^^ (why i tell you all my life??)

I think you're right, less people seem interested by trees. I know I usually get wierd looks and 'tree hugger' comments from people when I tell them. Learning to recognise birds is a good skill. I know most by looks but I am very poor at recognising them by their songs.

Oops, I spelled it wrong, it should be spelled "weird" I think in French the nearest words would be inconnu or bizarre.
Tree Hugger is a slang term for a hippy or eco lover. I think closest word in French would be ecolo.

Well I must confess that I cheated as I have a French-English dictionary here, an actual book. I am trying to learn French but my grammar is poor and I don't know so many words. So your English is much much better than my French.
