Description OMG! I actually finished a character!

This is "The Clash" a character from me and my buddies comic we're working on. Still needs a bit of tweaking, but it is a finished character for me to work with now. Just pretend he is holding something heavy above his head. Like a car or something lol.

By the way, he is a superhero. And one of his powers is super strength. Go figure huh?

Oooooooh, he's got a face~

I like it. The shading's well done, proportions are great, details are... detailed...
That look of determination is wonderful. He looks strained enough to be lifting something, but not so much as he can't handle it.
All those folds in the pants are a nice touch, too, especially around the feet.
I also like the left (his left) foot. The perspective is well done, and it's hard to get that pesky perspective thing right in the first place, especially on feet when they're like that.
The only thing that could possibly be, ah, awkward is that the left (once again, his left) knee is a little hard to place exactly where it is. I'm not sure entirely, but it's almost as if the folds in the pants are putting it (the knee) in one place, but the shading's putting it in another.

All-in-all, I think he looks cool~

Thank you!

And yes, I agree with you about his left knee, I think if I would have tilted it just a bit more to the side it would be easier to tell where exactly it is, though its pretty much just right in the middle there. The folds should be right below the actual knee cap. If that helps any. I'll have to work on that a little more it seems lol.

And I'm glad that my shading skills haven't faded too much over the years. I haven't finished a picture this much in like 3 or 4 years at least! And thats just crazy...

I'm very glad you like him though
He will most likely be the main character for the comic I'm working on with my friend. Though he may still go through a little editing. Maybe...

You're welcome~

Heh, yes, that's where the folds put it, but the shading puts it a little above that. That's why it's a little awkward. That's what I see, anyways. >x<

I envy your shading skills, really. In fact, I envy your drawing skills in their entirety.
And maybe you should finish pictures more often...

Is that comic going to make it to dA? I'd like to see this character in action!
Chracters always go through some tweeking. Sometimes the hair isn't exactly how you want it, the eyes are too squinty/wide/big/just plain 'wha...?', and so on and so forth. Personally, I like him the way he is, but if you've got plans for him, that's cool. It's always interesting (though sometimes embarrasing ) to look at how a character develops, design-wise and attitude-wise.

Ah well, a flawed knee isn't too bad I suppose. I'll just have to work on my shading a bit more for next time

And I think I will have to start finishing pictures more often... lol.

And HOPEFULLY I will be able to post pictures of the comic on here. If anything, I should be able to post the rough drafts of kinda whats going on. One thing we were thinking was to have kind of a test run online, here and maybe a couple of other art sites, to display it and see what kind of reaction we get, to see if its even worth trying to get it published.

And at the moment, our deadline (albeit kind of a long one) is to have at least our first issue completely drawn out and ready by Christmas. So, I've got a lot of drawing to do before then lol.

Aw, yes, you could, y'know, actually mess things up considerably. A bad knee isn't that bad. (I'll try to resist a joke about knee replacement. )

Dooo iiiit. As much as I like the pose sketches you do, it's a lot more interesting to see them fully fleshed out.

Oooooh, I'd like to look at even the rough drafts. If anything, just to see what you guys do with it, and to see the characters 'in motion', as it were.

In that case, Christmas will probably come sooner for you than you think. Just, y'know, from my personal experiences with deadlines. I hate them. >.>

Rusten In reply to TheAzureDolphin [2009-07-31 17:26:24 +0000 UTC]

Haha yes... Christmas will be here in like no time unfortunately. And I'll be like "Oh noes! I'm not done yet!"

And hehehe... I'll resist jokes about knee replacement as well, hopefully I'll be able to last a few more years before I've gotta get mine completely replaced

And yes, posting rough drafts should be no problem at all, we want to at least get our stuff out in the open a little bit so that we can start getting responses. We need to know that people like what we're doing!

OR if they hate it, we need to know what we need to fix

Haha, I'm like that all the time. It starts out as "Oh, I'll get to that project soon enough." Then it turns into "FFFFFFFF THAT WAS REALLY STUPID." But it keeps happening.
"I don't know what that tells you, about that particular event." - Doctor Who

... Was that a joke or do you really have a bad knee? (I hate text sometimes...)

Fan critique is nice, as long as you remember that you can't please everyone. Like, ever. ... It's pretty depressing, really, but hey! Long as there's enough people satisfied, they can go... I dunno, lick a frozen pole or something.

Haha, I really do have a bad knee. I broke it about 3 years ago and had a few surgeries. But hey, I can still walk and run and stuff. It just hurts sometimes.

And yes, it is impossible to please everyone, but I would at least like to know I'm making a few people happy with our work

TheAzureDolphin In reply to Rusten [2009-08-01 02:22:42 +0000 UTC]

D:! That must've hurt! Did you fall on it wonky or something? It must be pretty bad if it still hurts occasionally.

Yes, I can understand that. A few people represents a good portion of the population, so that means quite a few people will/would be happy, if you and your friend ever get to publishing it.
P'wah, now I'm all excited. >.<

Rusten In reply to TheAzureDolphin [2009-08-01 22:17:03 +0000 UTC]

Ha its alright. I was rock climbing, and I busted it up pretty bad. I lost some of the cartilage during the surgery, and thats like the padding stuff, so now I get arthritis! Go me! But its not that bad most of the time. Just sometimes its a real pain in the arse!

Just think how excited we are! I can barely hold it in! I want it to be ready right now so I can start getting reactions and replies!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheAzureDolphin In reply to Rusten [2009-08-01 23:36:12 +0000 UTC]

I get something similar to arthritis when I get really stressed, so I can sort of sympathize. X|
Cartilage... I don't think you can grow that back... can you? o-o

You gotta start drawing before you can get those reactions! X3

Rusten In reply to TheAzureDolphin [2009-08-02 01:29:37 +0000 UTC]

No, unfortunately cartilage doesn't come back, so, when the rest of it wears out, I'll have to get it replaced...

But on a lighter note, that's still 5-10 years away at least!

TheAzureDolphin In reply to Rusten [2009-08-02 02:08:47 +0000 UTC]

Aw. That sucks.

Erm, well, it might come sooner than you think...

Yeah, but fortunately for me, I'm one of those optimistic types. Originally doc said I'd probably need a cane to walk with. I sure showed him!

TheAzureDolphin In reply to Rusten [2009-08-02 16:58:03 +0000 UTC]

Haha, the doctors always make things seem better or worse. They never tell you what the frag is actually going on.
P'wah, my Mom also has a cane. She only used it for like, a week, I think. But then, that was a long time ago, so memories are a little blurry. But it wasn't that long that she used it.
But you're pretty lucky that you don't need one. Otherwise you'd probably look like some old geiser. (Not to mention it'd probably be annoying. -.- )

Rusten In reply to TheAzureDolphin [2009-08-02 19:57:49 +0000 UTC]

Well, he had pretty good reason to worry, I busted it up pretty bad, then walked on it for over a month not realizing how bad the damage was. So, with an old break, and internal bleeding, I had a lot that needed repairing. Luckily though, the bone healed back properly, just, without that cartilage, there isn't much padding in there.

TheAzureDolphin In reply to Rusten [2009-08-02 20:07:27 +0000 UTC]

My knees hurt now. Thanks. >x< (Curse you, empathy!)
You walked around on that thing for a month before you did anything? ... Uhm, just... wow, really...

Rusten In reply to TheAzureDolphin [2009-08-02 20:17:38 +0000 UTC]

Haha yeah... I didn't know it was broken... We thought I just sprained it or something... The doctor was pretty amazed, considering the bone I broke was my femur.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheAzureDolphin In reply to Rusten [2009-08-03 00:43:18 +0000 UTC]

You must've thought that was one heckuva sprain, then.
Your femur? Maybe you should stop listing body parts...

Rusten In reply to TheAzureDolphin [2009-08-03 02:25:09 +0000 UTC]

Haha you could say that. And don't worry, thats the only bone I've ever broken... Thats the worst injury i've ever sustained, luckily! lol.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheAzureDolphin In reply to Rusten [2009-08-03 08:04:11 +0000 UTC]

I've never broken a bone... So, I guess that means can't entirely understand how... painful, that must've been.
If that's the worst injury you've sustained, then I think you're doing pretty good. I once knew a guy who broke his arm (usually the right one, his writing arm) every few months. We actually started to panic a little when he stopped showing up with an arm cast for extened periods of time. Well, we at least mentioned it. A lot.

Holy cow! Thats just crazy!

On another note, I drew a few things tonight. One, I think is horrid. And I doubt it will ever see the light of day again. The other, isn't too awful, but the proportions are off and I'm too tired to scan it tonight. So, it will be scanned in the morning.

Hopefully I'll have the motivation to draw some more tomorrow. Or at least think of "what" I'm going to draw. I'm sitting with a blank brain... no ideas... Dang... Lol.

I know, it was pretty ludicrous. D;

Ooooh, I'll look forward to it later. (It's actually 'morning' [3 AM] here, and I really should be in bed. )

Lawl. My friend, you have Artist's Block, I do believe.

Okay, so it was a little late, but I did post a few more pics up

I got a little busy, and wasn't able to scan them until now. But there are 3 more pictures for you to look at now
