Description I love the designs of the Earth spacecraft in the movie Iron Sky. They contrast well with the dieselpunk Nazis. Because I'm obsessed with comparing science fiction universes, I decided to make a "patch" for this chart:Β www.st-minutiae.com/resources/…

The images are based on screencaps I took of the game Iron Sky: Invasion. The size measurements are approximations, which I measured by calculating the time it takes for the small Dundee craft to move from one end of the ship to another, and plugging that into an equation with the in-game speed. I'm not sure how accurate these are, so I'm open to new measurements. I'm also open to good images of side profiles for the other Iron Sky ships; if you have them, send them my way!

Why is Canada's so large compared to the UK ship it seems like the UK would be able to make a larger ship with their economy?Β

If you have a good side profile image of it, and a size, I'll make a patch for the more popular scale chart.Β

Nicely done. Love this movie too. For the comments about the "Hollywood" choices, I think this movie is mainly Finnish, so the american companies have few to say on the matter. We could note that the only nation not to have weaponized their spacecraft is Finland, by the way. I think that with a budget of less than 8 millions euros, they have chosen the humourous angle rather than the serious one which give so many direct to video time wasters.

It's a shame Iron Sky is so god-damned dumb, because the idea is actually rather sound if not legitimately scary. Flesh and blood Nazis hiding out beyond our reach on the Moon, and who could come at any time to enact genocide against the rest of humanity for our cosmopolitan sins? Delicious.

And then it devolves immediately into Sarah Palin clones. Fucking Hollywood.

I didn't mind the cheesiness, since Nazis on the Moon could go either way. I think your idea would work better with interdimensional Nazi invaders, who would more plausibly have not only the technology, but the troops to occupy Earth.Β

I'm not thinking of occupation. More of a balance between continuously denying the Nazi's a return to Earth with the knowledge that they could let it all burn if they ever truly thought there was no other way to succeed. After all, they've been living on the moon just fine, if they get too used to it the chance of them ceasing to tolerate the existence of the untermench on Earth increases.

Ah, I see. I think a more straightforward alternate history, with the Nazis under close watch by the Allies, may work better with that premise.

MetalSlimeHunt In reply to RvBOMally [2016-07-07 18:36:31 +0000 UTC]

That's what I think makes the moon premise have such potential. "What are they doing up there? Are they even still up there?" It actually lends an air of credibility, bizarre as that sounds when talking about Moon Nazis, to why the world would end up basically like OTL while simultaneously ignoring the continued existence of Nazis. How long could the exiled Nazis REALLY do nothing before the politicians of the world decided to focus on more pressing matters?

It wasn't supossed to be taken seriously it was a satirical black comedy.

I realize that. Doesn't change the fact that they would have been better off trying to take it seriously, the comedy is in the premise. Trying to make jokes about it is very much in the vein of only having one joke that you tell over and over again with different wording.

Hollywood had jack shit to do with Iron Sky, it's just how the producers roll: See Star Wreck for example.

But I do agree if it was taken seriously, it would had worked far better than it did.
