Description
Line art by 3892 .The Space Cadets are the military wing of the Protectorate. Space Cadets were once soldiers serving the Protectorate of Mankind when it was a growing galactic power, intent on taking control of the galaxy as a proper federation for humanity. However, the membership of the Third Empire led to all power being siphoned from the Protectorate and towards the Empire, transforming the Protectorate into a shell of its former self. The Protectorate's purpose, and thus that of the Space Cadets, were redirected from governance and towards the defense of mankind from its common enemies: the alien and the machine.
A lack of funding and a desire to evoke the golden age of human expansion has frozen the Space Cadets' aesthetics and technology in time. Modern Space Cadets are dressed in similar combat suits as their brethren were nearly fifteen thousand years ago. The Model 2000 Jetsuit is little different, technologically and aesthetically, from those used by the Protectorate during their skirmishes with the forces of the early Third Empire. Made of polymers that are now considered archaic, the Model 2000 does not have the ballistic or thermal resistance that modern military-grade armor possesses, and the suit lacks an on-board shield generator. Against blaster or phaser fire, the Model 2000 is as useless as cardboard. It is, however, equipped with a feature that was popular during the golden age: a jetpack. This anti-gravity pack allows the Space Cadet to fly for short distances, or leap from place to place in the middle of combat. Considered archaic because of the prevalence of effective anti-aircraft weaponry that would make quick work of any insufficiently-armored jumpjet infantry, the Space Cadets are nevertheless able to use jetpacks effectively because most of their opponents do not expect to fight against jumpjet infantry.
Space Cadets are also armed with archaic disintegrator weapons. Although effective, even against modern materials and shields, disintegrator weapons are power-intensive and are usually impractical in major engagements. As Space Cadets usually conduct small-scale operations, even with the Protectorate's shoestring budget, disintegrators are a practical choice. This Space Cadet is armed with a Q-2X Matter Modulator.
Like the Citizens' Alliance which this Space Cadet called home, the Space Cadets do not restrict women from frontline service. This is primarily out of desperation: lacking a massive population which they can coerce into service, the Space Cadets will recruit anybody who comes to them. This Space Cadet was disqualified from serving in the Citizens' Alliance Marine Corps because of her history as a petty thief, so she joined the Space Cadets. The Space Cadets were happy to have her, because unlike most of their "recruits," she stopped her criminal activity prior to her arrest. Possessing the same burning hatred for alien civilizations as any good Alliance civilian would, she joined the Space Cadets because only they would let her fight against threats such as aggressive shortman clans.

The Protectorate's color scheme is inspired by Buzz Lightyear, of all things.

So with the disintegrator weapons do they actually disintegrate or are they just really good at catching things on fire? I remember you said a blaster or phaser had the damage output somewhere between a 20 millimeter cannon and modern grenade launcher shell.

They attack chemical bonds and cause matter to disintegrate into its constituent elements.

That sounds like it would be nasty to get hit by.

Yes, but also unnecessarily deadly.

Is the Protectorate the least advanced of all the human powers?

It's technically not a human power.

Are there any other galactic powers that permit women to serve in frontline service?

Protectorate is some sort of extra-national organization, without set borders which does some job for all others?

They're kind of like a space UN for space Nazis.

How other human factions perceives them? From the description they are affiliated with the Citizen's Alliances, but how do the Empire and Federation view them? As enemies, neutral or as semi-friends as Protectorate is fighting the aliens.

It depends on the faction. The Federation, Solarians and Avelovans likely only begrudgingly given them lip-service since all three factions are pro-alien to varying degrees. The Consortium and the Third Empire probably don't take them seriously and just use them as a political pawn. Honestly, I think only the Citizens' Alliance and Duzhonev Imperium are the only factions that earnestly support them.

They view them as the Soviet Union and the USA viewed the UN during the cold war. A useful platform to try and get what you want, but mostly ineffectual.

So they dont attack them, but dont care for them.

The ability to "attack" such a supranational organization is dubious at best. Imagine, for instance, if the modern United States attempted to attack the United Nations. It could occupy its headquarters, perhaps. Harass some peacekeepers. But beyond that, what could it do? Declare war on every other member state?

Hmm, depends Modern UN has zero power over USA, letting them to as they please and even "supporting it". In that sense, USA is alsready controlling UN, no need to attack it, as it has actually no real material value.
