"Forth Wall, Shmorth Shmall!"so i got some spiffy 11X14 paper the other day and i'm really digging it! I've never worked with those dimensions, usually prefering the 11X17... but i think i like this better. It gives it a much more boxy feel and reminds me of ol' timey full page comic strips from the early 20th century. I'm given a lot of room to play around with so i decided to use the 'conscious of the medium' story.
a few of he mindfraks that i enjoy:
is the guy in the last panel the same as the guy in the first?
the freeze spell: if they're aware of the panel layout and such, shouldn't they also be aware that they are not actually moving? thus aren't they already frozen? but then again if they're frozen then how can he escape and this is where my nose starts to bleed...
ultimate best thing ever in comics: when they climb out of the panel. that's swift.

wow, thanks man! though i hardly compare with his technical abilities by a long shot, i am greatly influenced by his mastery over page layout and character interactions... it's mindboggling to believe that he was able to manipulate the comic page at the turn of the 20th century! i feel that his techniques could teach a few of these newfangled comicmakers a thing or two...

By the way, what you did in this page, I call it a candy from my Candies Theory. Applied to comics, a candy is what you can only do within the medium of comics. There are few ones and you found one of them. Don't use too much because candies get boring when you eat a lot! Just one after every meal is just enough to appreciate it at its maximum. Its balance with the more usual stuff around makes it awesome. Lets say you make one candy page every 5 pages and that would be alright. Or you can make it more homogenic with a panel candy or two after every 5 panels. But too much is like putting every spices all together in a meal, it tastes shit! Haha!

these are great words of comics wisdom! ..as they say, variety is the spice of life, wot? you don't want to blow your artistic load too often either, i find, because you end up spending all of your neat trix at the beginning and then're left with little else.... you must learn to time you candies, it's all in the pacing and build up.

11 x 14 is the size of paper I've been using as of late my friend
Thats the size pad I've been doing the 100 pics challenge out of, but I switched to 11x8 pinter paper for the DFST-GO! comics because my scanner only has dimensions of 8.5 x11.5
