thanks. What I have been doing is looking at other people and how they handle lighting. I never copy a picture that I want to submit as "mine". But I do look at references and try to mimic the way they handle the subject. For example, some things I would pay attention to are: bounced or reflected light, source light such as the sun or a lamp, and where shadows would start or end. Sometimes I would look at how a person accented a highlight on a nose, and really like the way they did that, so I would try to incorporate it into a picture.
