Eh, its small potatoes compared to one of my battleships or battlecruisers.

Well the light cruiser here is about 22.7 million tons in mass and 1700 meters in length.
One of my battleship designs, a relatively standard one is about 128.6 million tons in mass and 2782 meters in length. The battlecruiser designs are about the same tonnage as battleships. So a standard sized battleship or battlecruiser is about 5 to 6 times the mass of this light cruiser.

Not bad.Β But in our little "discussion" I never learned if you ships had anything more then just armor.Β Do they have some sort of protective energy field system?

UH, yeah there is quite the defenses present on my ship designs. But yes there is a type of energy shield system, plus some ship designs will also carry a defensive system known as a defense field The main difference between conventional energy shields and defense fields is that energy shields can be drained and function quite like your typical sci fi energy shield, where as a defense field cannot be drained and it reduces the strength of incoming weapons fire, as well as compete repelling lower powered weapons fire. Typically a defense field is layered over an energy shield, so that to drain the shields of a target ship, a weapon has to be strong enough to penetrate the defense field. Now the strength of the shields and defense fields varies from one ship to the next, and while shields are pretty universal, defense fields are not. What combination a ship uses usually depends on it's exact role.
There are other types of energy shield based systems in my setting which function in different ways. For example, force fields are an example of another type of defensive system that doesn't function the same way as an energy shield, so the terms force field and energy shield in my setting are not interchangeable. Generally a force field behaves much like an armor plate, in that it blocks incoming weapons fire without losing power, so they cannot be worn down with a continuous barrage of light gunfire. However a heavy caliber weapon can punch through a force field and knock it out. The trade off of shields compared to force fields, is that shields can block a greater number of heavy caliber weapons for the same sized generator as a force field system, but in contrast shields can be drained by light weapons where as force fields cannot.Β Defense fields have an even lower blocking strength than force fields for the same generator size, but unlike the other two a defense field cannot be knocked out unless the generator itself is destroyed
The Akurians, the manufacturers of this particular cruiser generally make use of shields and defense fields, well for now. In all honesty, I am still debating as to whether the conventional sci fi energy shield system will even exist in my setting or if i will use something else. I am for sure keeping the Defense field and force field style of systems though.

Impressive, that a bit different from most Sci-Fi but it makes since.Β I just rely on a triple layer of defense myself (not counting the point-defenses).Β And to be honest, I completely forgot that Force Fields were a thing.Β It's been a while since I heard that term.
