Description Polar bear cub. This was an amazing experience. The polar bear exhibit has a swimming area with a huge glass wall (as you see more often at zoos), so you can see the bears swimming. This is a cub born only a few months back. First of all it's really great to see him growing up, he's so big already <3

But there were some children putting their hands to the glass (not knocking mind you, the parents kept a close eye on them ) and Vicks (that's his name) was extremely interested. He kept putting his paw on the glass just like the child. Perhaps it was a coincidence, or him holding his balance, I don't know. But it gave the impression that he was curious for the children and looking for contact. He stayed like this, close to the humans, for at least 15 minutes, so it wasn't a lucky shot or anything. He was truly interested to see what was on the other side of the glass.

This isn't another Knut case by the way. Vicks has not been touched by the zoo keepers, because they want him to grow up with his mother in the most natural way as possible. They couldn't even figure out if he was a boy or a girl, and asked the public to take pictures of a peeing polar bear (ya, for real ) so they could at least take a good guess. Turns out he pees like a boy Anyway, in a couple of weeks when mom is less protective of him, they will give him a good check up, he needs his shots and then they can know for sure whether it is a boy or a girl peeing like one

Taken at: Blijdorp zoo, Rotterdam, the Netherlands

This is incredible! I love the way you've got the water of the tank from both below the water's surface and then above, and that the cub is floating in between, if you get what I'm trying to describe, hahah. xD

Overall, it really is a wonderful photograph, and the person reaching out to the cub is a very nice touch too.

Yeah like how the head at the back isn't attached to the body anymore? I love that effect! Thanks a lot for the comment

Yeah! The refraction of water does produce a lovely effect. :3 And you're welcome.
