Description
An in-progress picture of my unfurred wolf mask. all the details like the eyes, jaws, teeth, and nose were handcrafted by me.After seeing all these tutorials on how to make masks all over DeviantArt, I decided to give it a try myself.
The nose and teeth are made of sculpey clay, the gums are made from two pink balloons that were painted, along with ordinary nail polish over them to give them a shine.
The eyes are made from fish bowl gems (will post an tutorial on how to make realistic looking eyes for under $5

happy to share I'm still revising my "technique" myself. I got one of those $5 plastic masks at hobby lobby. I also got myself one of those foam mannequin heads there as well.
First off, I put the mask on the foam head, then sculpted a snout and other animalistic features on the mask with non-drying clay. I tried to use as little clay as possible so I don't end up with a fursuit head that looks giant in comparison with the body and also looked at a wolf skull for a reference.
Secondly, I put paper mache over the clay, let it dry, and then pried it off. I removed the clay, and then glued the paper mache snout onto the plastic mask.
Third, I cut the mask in two parts, the upper and lower jaw. (the trickiest part is making sure the cuts are perfectly symmetrical or else you'll wind up with a crooked jaw.) Then attach the hinges. I used chopped up and sturdy plastic utensils at the time, but they proved to be pretty fragile and easy to break, so you may wanna find another alternative. I'll probably get a hinge set from DA's Monoyosha's web store.
Fourth, I sculpted a jaw set with sculpey clay and with help from looking at wolf skull references. Again, the trickiest part is making sure the teeth align and match up. I then glued them on the upper and lower jaw areas. Also sculpted the nose out of the same stuff.
Fifth, the eyes were made of fishbowl gems with irises painted on the back of them. Easier to make than resin eyes in my opinion.
Hope this helps and let me know if I need to clarify anything!

thanks! I had inserted some little hooks under the lips of the finished mask so that I could pose them into a snarl if I wanted, hence the realistic coloring of the gums

That is an awesome idea. I've looked at masks with permenant expressions and such (it kinda makes me sad :/) but this is very cool.
