Description The 10 Commandments of Cosplay

I-Thou shall be clean:
In this sence that you must make sure to Bathe at least once a day and if not able to do so for even that, deoderant is a super close second to coat yourself with. Coating yourself with cheap body spray/cologne just doesnt help, rather it makes it worse.

II-Thou shall not be a Creeper:
No heavy breathing behind a cute cosplayer, no following the Voice Guest to their hotel room to seal their pizza box (so you can claim that you have Johnny Bosh's pizza box), be mindful of personal space, leave the lude sexual comments at home, and when a person says to leave them alone....just leave them alone.

III-Thou shall ask before Glomping:
Be mindful that people put time into these costumes and Im certain they just want you to piledrive them with your Glomp into a wall breaking their costume (armor, mech, ornate decorations, props, face paint on a real fur tail). Be polite and ask first to give them what they feel is an ok glomp for them. Also gropeing isint normal for a glomp......so just dont do it, unless they say its ok.

VI-Thou shall have a balanced Diet:
It doesnt matter how delish pockey or candy bars are....they arent real food and can not fuel the body properly. While as fast food isint really that much higher, it can work to fuel you body with the right combinations. Bringing a cooler of deli meat, peanutbutter sammichs, apples, bagel, or even fruit can and will help porperly fuel the body for an energy filled weekend.

V-Thou shall not be an Elitist
It doesnt matter how much more you feel that you know of cosplay, or building armor, or styling wigs.....just dont be one. We are all here because we at one time in our cosplay/anime life were rookies, not knowing jack squat......but were willing to learn. It also doesnt mean to shun off others you feel are unclean or dress from the "crappy spinoffs" of the show you cosplay. So even if they just have a headband, ren fair cloak, or foam sword.....they are trying and you never know.....they just might be your friend if your nice to them.

VI-Thou shall not leave your brain at home:
Trying to stay awake the whole 72 hours of a convention, not a good plan. Not bothering to get a room just cuz you think ther will be spots to sleep in the elevator or hallway, nope. Not taking your cell phone with you so friends can get ahold of you for when they need to drive back to the hotel......4 miles away. Trying to mooch off others for the whole weekend (food, room, badge, clothes),big NO. Takeing drugs to get "that extra kick" for the rave, just stupid. Takeing stuff that doesnt belong to you....great way to get a free ticket to jail.

VII-Thou shall not be a Drama Llama:
Drama is never needed, it does not need to be made, it fails to be started, its just not wanted. I it also ill advised to create it just because you have a beef with someone or people didnt pay attention to you skimpy costume like you thought they should have. Drama is never fun for the gang, because if one has drama....everyone in the room has it.

VIII-Thou shall not be a Weeaboo:
Super Kawaii desuuuuu nyann nyann Carmelldansen is not a proper sentance nor does it need to be. Inserting what you feel is Japan speak into everything you say doesnt make you look cool, actually quite the opposite. Just because you feel that you connect with you character you cosplay, does not make it any less awkard to those around you when you constanly feel that you are that character.

IX-Thou shall not speak of THE GAME:
The Game is dead, it does not need to be mentioned, nor does it need to be told of or shouted from the roof top. The Game has long since been over......stop beating a dead horse..........THE GAME.

X-Thou shall be repectful of the Guests:
Please for the love of god dont camp outside their hotel rooms, tear their clothing, stalk them at the Burger King down the street from the Convention, or kidnap them. They are humans, respect that and they will respet you. Chat with them, ask before barraging them with flash photography, be polite with the autographs (porn is usually a no no to get a guest to sign). You never know what a Convention guest will do if your nice and heck they might even sign that fith object you want even though the kon said only 4.

Definitely going to have to link this on the facebook page of my hometown's convention next year. Some people don't understand these /very/ simple concepts and have to be told a few times before they finally get it =w=

This works so well, and is a great way to SURVIVE a con, at our con they insist on following the 6-2-1 rule, get six hours of sleep, 2 meals and at least one clean up. I actually got asked to be glomped myself while dressed as Ed. And the dietery one...yeah its a hard one to follow but i does work so well

And it is one of the best things to follow so well. I have to remember for next year to bring a cooler with me, regardless of my character. Fast food can not be good on a long day

Thank you, I'll keep that in mind for next year. I tried to pack healthy this year...didn't do too well. But next year will be better, especially since I'm dealing with 10 people lol

With time come practice and knowledge for the next Convention. I wasnt always prepared for the conventions like I feel that I am now. XD It takes all the group to be ready and to see that the dollar menu will have you crashing by mid day sat or feeling like the end of the world on sun XDDD

Don't I know that lol. First year I went it was just me and I had bits and pieces ready, but I was crabby and tired mid Saturday and wanted to go home Sunday. This year I was with my friend and I had a bit more preparedness from other con goers in my area via youtube. But money was a hassel. This just makes it all better and I'm still preparing myself

You're welcome my friend!
DEFINITELY. It needs to be shown across all conventions, whether they're anime, comic book, or anything of the sort. -.-

Ummmm.. lets see I've gone to two conventions and have broken rules number one (i was camping at an actual camp ground, no way to take shower unless i went in the lake) and rule number nine (people were angry but i was pleased *shot) oh and i also broke number five dang two conventions and I've already broke the rules...

sackerhale In reply to thesquirrelofdoom [2011-06-30 19:04:46 +0000 UTC]

well it couldn't be helped with a camp site and when THE GAME was funny, its been dragged into the dirt. We all have broken several of these rules a time or two....we must learn from what we have done

At Mechacon a few years back some random girl hugged my little sister and then went on to tell me in detail about what she wanted to do to the character my sister was dressed as. D: That being said, it's about time someone made a list like this.

Hahah. It's a shame people have to keep feeding in to the con-nerd stereotype. Gives those of us who know how to wash our asses and make ourselves smell pretty a bad name. There should be a rule. If you're found breaking any of these rules, you shall be beaten with... I dont know... a paddle of some sort. A yaoi or a yuri paddle, I guess. And it's done by the person citing you for the infraction. XD I suspect a large chunk of the con-guests would be spending all day beating people with paddles. HA!

I just might have to see if this rule could be set into stone, very much so.
