I was digging through some boxes and wouldn’t you know it, I uncovered a plastic drawer full of DVDs I lost years ago. Among them were some old SpongeBob SquarePants DVDs I had received as gifts back in my frequent watcher days. So, I decided to pop 'em into the laptop and take a trip down memory lane, as the saying goes. Or maybe, "take a dive into memory deep" would be more fitting.

One of them featured the episode "Pranks for Nothing", a comical tale centering around SpongeBob and Patrick making themselves unseen after fighting over an aerosol can of "Invisible Spray" (that is sold in a joke shop, unnervingly) and decide to prank Bikini Bottom residents by pretending they were ghosts. They manage to scare everyone except Mr. Krabs (who even declares in the newspaper that he "ain't afraid of no ghosts" in a perfect Ghostbusters Shout Out). In an attempt to "ward" off such foul spirits, Mr. Krabs donned this odd chained barrel getup with lamps dangling (from an eyeband?) and a paddleball referred to as the "Specter Deflector" (hence the title of this piece).
The font used is Bradley Hand ITC.

What a pain to illustrate those chain links with those damned thick outlines. Ah well, I can blame the shoddiness of their appearance on Mr. Krabs' cheapness. No one will ever suspect otherwise.

Perhaps appropriately, I worked on the piece while listening to C.v.b. the Abstract's "The Sea". It's on a YouTube vid called "Adult Swim Bump The Sparkling Sea (Full Song". I recommend giving it a listen.
