Description Due to popular demands ,I decided to make a coloring tutorial .To avoid page stretch ,I used flash to make a book like tutorial .I had a lot of fun working with flash, though it was frustrating at times. I checked the tutorial 4 times ,and had 2 friends tested it /correct it for me ,so it should work smoothly .

Just a Note. This tutorial is not for beginners ,it's for people with at least some understanding of how digital programs work .This tutorial is very general that means it have about a little of everything .

Tip .If you have trouble with picking colors or shading ,then you should probably try to find some good references on google (cloth ,skin ,shoes ,etc) . It helps a lot .Also picking colors comes with experience, you can't expect to learn it in one day ,again the best way to learn about the different tone combination is to find references and learn from them .

Well then, Enjoy ! If you have any questions about the tutorial , please comment here ,I'll get back to you asap : )

Tutorial made with flash 8
Programs recommended for this tutorial : Paint tool sai ,Photoshop ,opencanvas ,Painter

i have a question (may be redundant but i just want to confirm) on your light source portion (page 2). is this layer used only for reference when you begin coloring and shadows? anyways it's a wonderful tutorial :]

I think you should do another tutorial focusing on the portraits you do a lot now (for example, "Goldfish") I feel like your painting style has changed (in a good way!!!) and I'm really interested in your use of colors and textures in the new portraits you do. This is helpful, but I think your style now is much more original and refined and I LOVE it. I'm really curious to see how you work! I hope you might consider it!! Keep being amazing please :]

This tutorial was definitely helpful. I'm going to do what i can to put it to use.

At some point though, between the "Get Started" and "Cell Shading" steps, the tutorial reminded me of this one:

Massive change from get started to cell shading. I was like...did I skip one? Your cell shading is already better than mine! DAMN!! Anyhows...this was a VERY helpful tutorial, and thank you for the top up tip. I'm currently saving up for sims 3 and a tablet, so, I should be able to start coloring without this mouse VERY soon! I just started and already have a stupid question xD When you decide where the light source is, do you like put some basics lightings or a lighter corner (sorry it's not really clear --") to remember?

Emm, I have a Bamboo Wacom Drawing pad but I've one problem,
in this computer sensibility doesn't work, how can I make it work??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AntoinetteRosae In reply to sofiangel12 [2012-05-14 08:21:12 +0000 UTC]

same here for me. but try to update your tablet driver. you can go to google then search wacom tablet pad driver update. here is the link though (it's official) [link]

choose your tablet pad and operating system (mac/windows/blabla XD lol)
after that, there's an option to download it. when you're finished, install it then try to plug your tablet pad again. It should work, but if not then there might be some un compatible programs/errors and such.

hope helps x3!

I found this tutorial and i think it's great!, just one question, when you shade, do you do it on a different layer? or on each object's layer?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MikagaYoishi In reply to Gabs37 [2012-05-17 03:32:37 +0000 UTC]

Shading on a different layer is easier cause you will have problems when you want to erase something and it is also tiring if you use Ctrl + Z all the time... hope this helps!
