Hey! Using refs isn't a bad thing! Oh ppl come oooon! It's not a sin! Even the GREATEST artists, (divine ones X"D) are using refs!
It's helpful and if your brain works better with visual stuff and you're the visual type of person you will memorize it sooner or later!
I am using refs as well! And I am usually breaking body parts into simple shapes to make it more easy for me to draw and understand anatomy.
