Description
The Enrichment Center reminds you that having a really, really big monitor does not make you a better person.Even if it's 1920x1080.
I made about a trillion variants of this but they contain icons from Amora , so they're not exactly presentable. When run in a slideshow screensaver together, however, and with an appropriate GLaDOS sound scheme, it's rather like your computer gets more and more desperate the further away from it you get.
So that's funny, too.

I don't know why I haven't faved and added this to my background rotation yet*, but I'll rectify that situation right away.
*Probably because I hadn't played Portal in years - just last week I started up a new game (in preparation for playing Portal 2) and I've been on fairly severe Portal kick ever since. I'm almost to the end and I feel legitimately sad knowing what's coming next. (DAMN YOU VALVE ... damn you for making me feel things for a chronically-lying, murderously deranged AI!)
*curls up in ball and mopes*

What? You still haven't played Portal 2?! Good gods, girl. Fix that, stat!

I've been meaning to since last winter, but chronic procrastination got the better of me, as usual. I finally picked it up during the Steam Sale and will probably start it tomorrow.
Even though I'm almost totally certain my feels (pardon the Tumblr turn of phrase) aren't prepared.

I promise I won't spoil anything. Now get going, test subject!
Although you will definitely want to make sure you have six or seven consecutive hours so you can do the single-player story all in one sitting. It's not a game you can put down.

That's what I keep hearing! Hopefully my tendency to rage-quit when things get too tough won't mess up the story too much, haha. (In Portal I managed to make it through Chambers 0 - 13 in no time but slowed down from there. The worse was Chamber 18, but I picked up speed after that.)

The puzzle complexity was deflated so the game can be played adequately on a controller. There aren't any twitchy moments where you have to pop three portals in half a second. I actually had more trouble figuring out how the puzzles were supposed to work (although I play more puzzle games these days, so that doesn't happen so much any more and is totally on me.) You really will end up wading through the whole thing in one go.

To be honest, I'm just a little bummed about the puzzle complexity - some of the Test Chambers in the first game were killer and I haven't quite experienced that yet. Though it seems like the actual controls are also easier / smoother, which is good.
A bunch of things have been going on so I haven't had the chance to play the game all the way through, though as of posting I've gotten about halfway through Chapter 6. Dat retrofuturism.

It really is the best retrofuturism.
If, when you're done with Portal 2, you really, really have a hankering for more complex puzzles, there's Quantum Conundrum , developed by a splinter group of the Portal team that quit when they decided Portal 2 was getting too easy. You change physics rules instead of manipulating portals, but it's still cube-and-buttonβbased testing at heart. Obviously there's no GLaDOSβbut her replacement is a crazy inventor uncle voiced by John de Lancie, so there's already a My Little Portal crossover fanfic in there somewhere.

I checked out your link and the TV Tropes page of Quantum Conundrum, it looks interesting. I haven't gamed in any real capacity in years and am in the process of getting back into it, so I'm definitely on the lookout for anything that seems like it would be to my tastes. Even if I don't have a very big starting point to work with.
Speaking of finishing Portal 2, I just got through it a little while ago. Totally not ashamed to say I bawled happily when GLaDOS saved Chell, admitted feelings of friendship for her and rediscovered her past ... annnnnd then GLaDOS turned all GLaDOS-y and ruined all of that. (Or so it seems.) In hindsight, I don't know what I expected.
I'm pretty sure my soul is going to be working off the effects of that mood-whiplash for awhile. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, considering that pitch-black humor is one of my very favorite things about Portal in the first place. But I could probably use a hug and some adorable fanart.

Thanks for giving me more material for my Portal fave-spree.
(Really though, I must say you have good tastes in Portal humanizations!)

Yes, but it makes gaming that much more fun! Not to mention easier on the eyes of those who are getting older. Nice wallpaper BTW.
We do what we must because we can.....has a really, really big monitor.........
