Description
Actually, I was in the waiting room, and I drew and coloured this while I waited.I went to the doctor today about an annoying ear infection. Knowing what I was in for, I carried my art bag with me.
I had been reading TwoKinds by Tom Fischbach (a.k.a. *Twokinds ) recently. Last week, I printed this page to read to my sister, and then put the print in the art bag. Armed with this and my usual art materials, I decided to draw Flora, the heroine of the comic, and see how far I could get before I saw the doctor.
I started out with the 0.5 mm mechanical pencils, 2H first and then 2B. I didn't actually check the reference at first, so I drew the ears in the wrong place, on top of the head. I started checking the reference and (incompletely) erased my earlier mistakes.
I didn't draw her feet!
I have three groups (only one is a complete set) of coloured pencils in the art bag, and this picture was done with The Stubbies, a group of no-brand pencils that are almost completely finished. The black one would be considered by most to be completely finished:
...and yet it was used for the nose, the stripes, and all other black-coloured areas in this picture! It's feeling better, I think it wants to take a walk...
Unfortunately, I no longer have a green Stubby; it met its untimely end a few months ago when it slipped from my fingers and fell down a drain. I was planning to go to another group of pencils (probably the Staedtlers) to finish her eyes, but the doctor was ready for me before that happened.
All I've done to it since is scan it and enhance the scan with ArcSoft PhotoImpression 3.
You can probably see the reason why one shouldn't use coloured pencils on a hard pencil sketch: the coloured pencils show up the crease lines in the paper!
I am of three minds as to what to do now. I'll either leave it as it is (most likely), finish it after looking at some references for Flora's legs, or erase it and paint over the coloured pencil residue with watercolour paint.
