Chapter Two: Deal?"Hey Stanly, over here!" That was Amy Johnson, my best friend. She was a very energetic girl that I had met on my first day of school here, and we had been friends ever since then. Currently, she was waving at me from one of the indoor lunch tables, already with her lunch half empty.
Walking close enough for me not to shout, I responded, "Hey, what's up?"
[Um, I really don't like that above sentence, but I can't figure out how to re-word it... can I have any tips please?]
"I heard there is a new kid that is supposed to start today, some kind of kinetic girl. Have you met her?" She asked, excited at the thought of making a new friend.
"Yeah," I paused, wondering if I should mention who she was to me.
"'Yeah', what? Is she another bully or something?" She asked noticing my reluctant pause.
"No, it's not that, it's just- it's just she's" I bit my lip, then decided to just blurt it out, "my ex-girlfriend, Mari."
Her smile vanished. We both just sat there awkwardly for a while, until suddenly she pointed off to s distant table behind me asking, "Her?"
I turned around, and then nodded in agreement.
"Oh, you have good taste." Noticing my smile, she offered, "Why don't we go sit with her?"
"Do I even need to answer that?"
"Oh come on, you know how bad it is on the first day. Let's go over there to cheer her up. Anyways I wasn't asking you, I was telling you." With that, she picked up her lunch and walked over towards Mari. Sighing, I picked up my tray and walked after her.
"Hey, are you Mari?" Amy asked once she arrived at the table.
"Yeah, how did you," she stopped talking when she saw me approach behind Amy. "Oh, I see." Attempting to ease the situation Amy sat down opposite Mari, motioning for me to sit next to her. I hung my head, but obeyed none the less.
"Ow! Mari, what was that for!" I shouted in frustration after being shocked. "If you don't want me here, just say so, don't go zapping me away."
"Oh my Gawd, I'm sorry! I didn't realize I was doing that, really. I'm sorry, are you alright?" she asked in a quick voice, obviously embarrassed.
"What are you talking about?" Amy asked, completely baffled. She didn't see me get shocked.
"Oh, you don't know, do you? Well, I have the power to, uh, create a kind of field that feels like static electricity. I must of created a small one when He tried to sit down, it really was on accident, I didn't mean to."
"Oh, forget it. I'm fine." I said, a little grumpy.
"Well thats really cool Mari," Amy said shooting me a glare. "I have the ability to turn invisible!" At that moment, she and all her clothes vanished, all except the apple she was holding. "Cool, hu? Oh, by the way, my names Amy. It's nice to meet you," she continued after reappearing.
"Yeah, nice to meat you too Amy."
We all just sat there nibbling on our lunches, not sure what to say. Within a few seconds, the school bell rang, and as if some great burden was lifter from us, all our faced shined with the look of relief. We all said goodbye to each other and began to head of to or classes. As I was walking away, Mari gently grabbed my arm.
"Look," she started, appearing uncomfortable, "since we will both be attending the same school now, we'll probably run into each other a lot more now, and well, perhaps we can help each other out. I'll be friends with you, if you return the favor. Deal?"
