Description
Couple days late on this picture, but D&RGW K-37 2-8-2 #491 is officially in active duty at the Colorado Railroad Museum, alongside C-19 2-8-0 #346.Witnessed this monster running strong and proud on its 88th birthday, (6/15/2016) with a newly restored boiler on newly rebuilt suspension on newly reballasted/refurbished track. Lovely sights and sounds.
And yes, of course I took video you buffoons.

Pretty sure once other engines and projects are completed, it will see attention again. Both active engines are coal fired, 40 is oil fired. Not sure that's the reason for inactivity but the museum has been thrashing around with remarkable productivity getting #346 and #491 in excellent operating order. Both engines have Colorado D&RGW heritage so naturally they have a little more prominence and priority.

Heritage aside, #40 is excellent for backup motive power in the event Steam is desired and any of the other engines are down for maintenence.
I do wish for you to see the work we do here. Regardless of our boiler laws we seem to have remarkable amounts of steam in operation, with more on the way in the coming years.

That's great to see her back. I remember seeing her in the shop when I visited the museum last summer.
