My first thought was that Urukag must be the local word for "oops".Β  Pretty cool map, the legend immediately sets the tone for the setting, especially the ancient sci-fi theme.Β  I'll have to look this game up.

Quality map. Appreciate the detail, the artwork and the impressive amount of research and originality. I don't understand what has drawn any negative criticism you should be proud of it.

I'm also sorry if I offended you Jakeukalane . I put a lot of work into researching this map. I think many people tend to trivialize ancient subjects and have criticized my work in the past without any historical knowledge of their own. It has made me a little defensive at times. I'm trying to create a world based on historical fact in a time period before recorded history. Names change, boundaries change, and some things are based on myth. I just hope the finished productΒ is able to conjure upΒ a vivid game world everyone can enjoy. Sapiento is doing a great job of making that happen.

I think that the map's fantastic, and I'm surprised how obsessed with accuracy your other watchers are. I mean I'd figure that ancient aliens thing would already make people realize realism is not the goal...

I think the font is absolutely perfect for the tone.

Aratta was never associated with Afganistan (which in ancient times was called Gandhara) but rather, it was what is now Turkey, as is evident by mount Ararat. All of the cities and place names are in their proper places, this is NOT a "re-located geography". This map is the result of hundreds of hours of painstaking research. My sources were the Torah, King James Bible, Epic of Gilgamesh, Egyptian book of the dead, Book of Enki and of course Wikipedia. Yes there were some place names that produced conflicting locations, in those cases I used the most numerous or credible sources. I have personally translated some of the Sumerian names and placed their location based on my findings....which may differ from inaccurate mainstream interpritations. Mount Mashu for example has been a mystery to Archaeologists for centuries. Some say its only myth, others place it in various positions from Egypt or Sinai to India. This is because the mainstream translation has been "double mountains or brothers". This is incorrect. Ma-su (Mashu) in old Sumerian means "large, deep drafted ship". I placed Mnt. Mashu as Mnt. Ararat because of the flood myth. Also, the earliest records of the Sumerians say that they originated from Arrata and that their Gods first descended upon Mount Mashu (the Sumerian version of Olympus). What mountain in Arrata could be Mashu other than Ararat?! Furthermore, in all cases I used the oldest known name for a place, sometimes this name precedes a name that is more well known or more popular (Bab-ili for example is Babylon, Urim is UR etc.)

Also, the climate was very different in the ancient past. The great forests of Iraq were known the world around.....but today its a desert. I assure you I have done my homework. As accurate as I've tried to be, keep in mind this is in fact a "fantasy setting" based on mythology.

Well, I read about Aratta and is agreed that is somewhere near Afghanistan or Iran. This is agreed because multiple sources in text as having to cross mountains that are near Zagros and also because is a place to look for laspislazuli that it was located only in the region of Afghanistan (or near that zone).

Sorry if my previous comment have offend you in any way. I understand that should be a great ammount of effort in making this map so, sorry for my not very deep though of a "relocated geography".

Thank you for your response.

Anyway of my previous comment I appreaciate when people is interested in ancient mythology or history, because those are the thing that I really feel passion about.

"Bab-ili" is Babylon....which didn't reach its height until thousands of years later. There was a Tilmun and a Dilmun. Many scholars mistakenly think they are the same. Dilmun is in Bahrein while Tilmun was the Sinai. Β

nice. Love how there are mesopotamian things throw away in the map without any relation with the real thing. (e-din, the borders of any city, meaning steppe or plain) or *Aratta that originally is in Afghanistan.
So this is a re-located geography.

There's also an ancient alien space laser. So obviously historical accuracy isn't really a priority for this RPG setting....

interesting.

Most historiens believe Tilmun ( more often written Dilmun ) was in Bahrein though, but I suppose that's part of the RPG's setting.

I don't know about this city haran in the NW, there was a Harran farther east in what is made the E-Din area

Pishon and Gihon? I know those rivers.... but some modern historians put them as dried wadis near Kuwait, not in Assyria.

No powerful Babylon or wealthy Lydia? Either way, I certainly approve of your style, it's very detailed without being overly detailed and its very refined.

The game setting is 400.000 years ago, so this is not a historical accurate map.

Ah, I see. My apologies I had hoped that my jest would come across but translation of humor is usually difficult to mediate via text. It is still a very excellent map.
