I'm intrigued by Chinese dragons, they're so mystical and elegant.
Maybe I should paint one of my own... I find this very inspiring I love how it's so calm and dream-like.
Lovely work x

I have no idea why, but that tree with the flowers really caught my eye.
I like the pink and the blue used here and the curves of the dragon
, because I know that I'll want to look at this tree again

I love those transparent clouds. And the cherry tree. Have you ever tried bonsai before?
The dragon is appropriately fantastic. It has a pleasing color sceme, and a delicious sinuousity.

I was wondering about the bonsai because of the cherry tree you have in the foreground. The way you painted it reminds me of one. But then again, bonsai are supposed to emulate the trees out in nature, so you have that covered fairly well.

WATERCOLORS?
I could really grow to dislike your absolutely cavalier manner about your talent.
Man, I wish I could use a brush as well....
this is quite good, especialyy since its a once through on the wrong paper!
How did youget the waterclors to be so, opaque? was that a function of the black paper?
And dont believe the label, that paper SUCKS for pastels, dry ones anyway, I have a couple of books of it, I am going to try oil pastels on it, I think those will go on anything, as long as you dont mind it being sticky forever....I love the way you layered the mist/clouds - like fabric, gauze floating -
I cant do that yet.
later sascha

thanks for the tips, and I have found that the freakin reds are almost ALWAYS transparent to some degree, god nows in acrlics they are too.....and pastels, somewhat...the oil pastels reds and yellows especially are transparent
-I donβt mind getting dirty when I need to, and pastels leave such a pretty array of colors - my hands look like, well, abstract art almost, cept for the finger pads, they are mostly just dark.....
and I found that the art again paper, hasnβt enough tooth for more than two or if real lucky, three layers of dry pastels...thatβs not enough for me, its about one or two passes short.
Now, with time and skill I can reduce this, look at Twachtman, a few strokes, a smudge, and you a have farm and road...., the canson ma-tientes, I can get four or five on the rough side, and if i use fixative, sparingly can maybe go as high as 5-6 full layers, and then another touch of highlights here and there...in comparison, some of the better grade Pastel papers with a LOT of tooth, like the art spectruum or sennelier, I can go as high as 10-15 layers, but donβt usually
...and I havenβt used them yet but the pastel board (clayboard) and the Wallis and Sabretooth are supposed to get in the twenty to thirty layer range - using schminkes, the softest of them all...they flow like butter, and sometimes flow too easily - almost a solid swath of color, man, I could eat them if they werenβt poisonous. They look so yummy!
Tooth - is everything - I think though I have found the paper I love...still a few more to try yet though, once I get outta this hole and back into color again...I hope it this winter, I want to keep up with my oil pastels and in summer, its to darn hot to use them.... they are too damn sloppy in the heat. They think they are oil paints or something, I mean. The nerve of the little pigmented things flowing wherever gravity takes them and all...
oh, and as for cavalier, it means off hand, disregard, shoot, I'll go look it up for you hang on a minute....
[link]
there you go....I used it like an adjective, and the meaning was #1 & #2 for adj.
adj.
1. Showing arrogant or offhand disregard; dismissive: a cavalier attitude toward the suffering of others.
2. Carefree and nonchalant; jaunty.
Remember look it up, they are just words, and words are your friendsβ¦..go find a new one!
